A whole day out of Milan, in your own car
A private day trip with MilanobyCar is simple: a Mercedes and an English-speaking driver are yours for the day, from the moment we collect you at your hotel in Milan (or at Malpensa, Linate or Bergamo airport) to the moment we bring you back. No coach, no group, no fixed timetable: you stop where you like and stay as long as you like.
The ideas on this page cover Lake Como, Lake Maggiore and Lake Garda, Venice, Verona, Turin and Bologna, the Italian Riviera and the Cinque Terre, the wine country of Franciacorta, the Langhe and Valpolicella, and the Alps from St. Moritz to Zermatt. We have been driving these roads since 1993.
Every day trip is tailor-made. The tour pages and itineraries on this site are our suggestions, built on what our guests enjoy most. You can change the stops, the order, the timing and the pace, combine two ideas into one day, or ask for something that is not listed at all.
Your driver, your local insider. Our chauffeurs are not licensed tour guides, but with years of experience on these roads they can point you to the best places, viewpoints and restaurants and give you useful tips on the day.
Write your wishes in the booking notes, or choose "Custom tour, on request" in the form and we will plan the day with you.
How much does a private day trip from Milan cost?
Prices are per vehicle, not per person, and include the car, the driver, fuel, motorway tolls and parking for the car.
- Close destinations (Lake Como, Bergamo, Franciacorta, the outlets, Milan itself) are priced as a full 8-hour day with 150 km included.
- Destinations more than two hours away each way, such as Venice, Zermatt, the Cinque Terre or St. Moritz, are priced as 10- or 12-hour days, with the extra distance included. The price you see in the form is the full price for that tour.
- Extra hours can be added in the booking form: €75 per hour with the E-Class and €85 with the V-Class.
- Saturdays and Sundays are +20%, Christmas, New Year, Easter and Ferragosto +50% (never both). Pick-up at Malpensa, Linate or Bergamo airport adds €60.
- Not included: entrance tickets, boats, trains and cable cars, local guides, meals and the Venice access fee where it applies.

Which day trip from Milan should you choose?
The best day trip depends mostly on how much of the day you want to spend in the car.
Under 1 hour away
Lake Como (Como, Bellagio, Varenna, Tremezzo), Bergamo's Città Alta, Monza, Lake Varese, Franciacorta and FoxTown in Switzerland. Relaxed days with plenty of time on the spot.
1½ to 2 hours away
Lake Maggiore and the Borromean Islands, Lake Garda and Sirmione, Lake Orta, Turin, the Langhe and Alba, Verona. A full day, still unhurried.
3 hours or more
Venice, Portofino and the Riviera, the Cinque Terre, Bologna, St. Moritz, the Bernina Express and Zermatt. Long, rewarding days of 10 to 12 hours; early starts help.
Private day trips from Milan: questions
Can we change the itinerary?
Yes. Every day trip is tailor-made, and the itineraries on our pages are suggestions. Tell us the stops you want in the booking notes. If the new plan needs more time or distance than the tour includes, we tell you the difference before confirming.
Is a tour guide included?
Your driver speaks English and knows the routes and the places well, but is not a licensed guide and does not accompany you inside sites. We can book a local licensed guide for a museum, a city walk or a winery visit on request.
How many people fit in the car?
The Mercedes E-Class takes up to 2 guests and the Mercedes V-Class up to 6. For larger groups we can arrange two or more cars. Child seats are available free of charge: tell us the children's ages.
Can we start at the airport or finish somewhere else?
Yes. We can collect you at Malpensa, Linate or Bergamo airport (+€60) and drop you at your hotel, another town or the airport at the end of the day. Choose the drop-off place in the booking form.
What if the day runs longer than planned?
You can add extra hours when you book, at €75 per hour with the E-Class and €85 with the V-Class. On the day, the driver will simply tell you if you go beyond the time booked.
How and when do we pay?
Nothing is paid when you send the request. Once we confirm, we email you a secure payment link, payable within 48 hours and at the latest 24 hours before the trip.
