Milan’s art and design, district by district

Milan is Italy’s capital of design, and its art and architecture are spread across the city: the Pinacoteca and the design showrooms of Brera, the Triennale in Parco Sempione, the towers of Porta Nuova, where Stefano Boeri’s Bosco Verticale carries hundreds of trees on its balconies, and, in the south, Fondazione Prada, the former distillery converted by OMA and Rem Koolhaas and opened in 2015. Seeing them all on foot or by taxi takes planning; with a car it becomes a relaxed day. For trips outside the city, see our day trips from Milan.

Your driver links the districts in ten to twenty minutes each, waits while you visit, and ends the day where Milanese evenings begin, with an aperitivo on the Naviglio Grande. The price is per vehicle, not per person: from €600 with an E-Class for two, from €680 with a V-Class for up to six.

Milan Art and Design Itinerary

An 8-hour day that starts late, moves from old masters to contemporary architecture, and finishes at aperitivo time.

Tailor-made, always. This itinerary is our suggestion only: every MilanobyCar day trip is tailor-made. Change the stops, the order and the timing as you like, or tell us your own plan in the booking notes.

Your driver, your local insider. Our chauffeurs are not licensed tour guides and do not guide you inside museums or sites, but they know these places well from years on the road: ask them for the best viewpoints, where to eat, where to stroll and how to avoid the busiest spots. If you would like a licensed guide, we can book one for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Milan Art & Design Tour — FAQ

How long does it take to drive between the stops?
Ten to twenty minutes, depending on traffic. Brera and Porta Nuova are close to each other in the north of the centre, the Triennale is in Parco Sempione, and Fondazione Prada is in the south, near Porta Romana, so a car saves a lot of time.
How much does a private design day in Milan cost?
From €600 per car with a Mercedes E-Class (up to 2 passengers) and from €680 with a V-Class (up to 6), for 8 hours with 150 km included. Weekends are +20%, major holidays +50%, extra hours €75 or €85.
Do we need to book museum tickets?
It is a good idea. Fondazione Prada tickets are valid only for the date you choose and its exhibition spaces are closed on Tuesdays; the Pinacoteca di Brera and the Triennale are usually closed on Mondays. Check the current opening days and exhibitions, and we plan the order around them.
When is the best time for a design tour?
Any time of year works. Milan Design Week, with the Salone del Mobile in April, is the most exciting moment but also the busiest, with traffic and crowds across the city: book the car early if you are coming then.
Can the day start or end at the airport?
Yes. The day can start at Malpensa or Linate with luggage kept in the car, or end there instead of at the hotel. Airport pick-up is €60 extra.
Is a guide included?
No. Your driver is not a licensed tour guide and does not guide inside the museums, but knows the city well and can recommend galleries, cafés, restaurants and aperitivo bars and give practical tips. A licensed art or architecture guide can be booked on request.

A design tour of Milan by car or on foot?

Brera and Porta Nuova can be walked, but the Triennale, Fondazione Prada and the Navigli are in different parts of the city, and the metro does not link them directly. A private car turns four districts into one easy day and leaves your energy for the museums.

What makes Milan a design city

Milan has been the centre of Italian industrial design since the post-war years, when furniture, lighting and product companies grew up around the city. The Triennale has held its exhibitions since the 1930s, the Salone del Mobile brings the design world here every April, and new architecture keeps changing the skyline, from Porta Nuova to CityLife.

How much is a Milan design tour?

MilanobyCar charges a fixed price per car: from €600 for two passengers in a Mercedes E-Class and from €680 for up to six in a V-Class, for 8 hours including driver, fuel and parking. The exact price for your date appears in the booking form.
