Cinque Terre
Private Day Trip from Milan
Five cliffside villages reached the way locals do it: by car to the edge of the park, then the coastal train and, in season, the boat. A long, honest 12-hour day, fixed price from €1,280 per car.

The Cinque Terre from Milan, planned around the train
Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore are five villages wedged into a steep stretch of coast between Levanto and La Spezia, listed by UNESCO in 1997 together with Portovenere and its islands. They are about 220 km from Milan, two and a half to three hours each way, which makes this the longest of our Riviera day trips from Milan. We would rather say it plainly: you will spend around five hours in the car and six on the coast, and it is worth it if you are happy with an early start.
The car cannot take you into the villages. The roads down to them are narrow and winding, parking is scarce and the old centres are essentially pedestrian, so we do what people who live here do. Your driver drops you at Levanto station, you move from village to village on the local train or, from spring to autumn, the boat, and the car is waiting for you at La Spezia at the end of the afternoon. The price is per vehicle, not per person: from €1,280 with an E-Class for two, from €1,440 with a V-Class for up to six.

Cinque Terre Day Trip Itinerary
A full 12-hour day: drop-off at Levanto in the north, the villages by train or boat, pick-up at La Spezia in the south.
Tailor-made, always. This itinerary is our suggestion only: every MilanobyCar day trip is tailor-made. Change the stops, the order and the timing as you like, or tell us your own plan in the booking notes.
Your driver, your local insider. Our chauffeurs are not licensed tour guides and do not guide you inside museums or sites, but they know these places well from years on the road: ask them for the best viewpoints, where to eat, where to stroll and how to avoid the busiest spots. If you would like a licensed guide, we can book one for you.
Early pick-up at your hotel in Milan
An early start is what makes the day work. Your driver meets you in the lobby, and the motorway out of Milan is still quiet at this hour. Breakfast can be a coffee stop on the way.
Drop-off at Levanto station
Levanto is the northern gateway to the park, with a long beach and an easy station. From here the Cinque Terre train reaches Monterosso in a few minutes. Buy or collect your Cinque Terre Card before you board.
Monterosso and Vernazza
Monterosso has the only real sandy beach of the five and an old town of narrow lanes behind it. One stop further, Vernazza is built around a tiny harbour watched over by the tower of its medieval castle. In season you can make this hop by boat instead of train.
Anchovies, pesto and a glass of Sciacchetrà
Monterosso anchovies, trofie with pesto, focaccia and fried seafood in a paper cone are the local staples; Sciacchetrà is the rare sweet wine made from grapes dried on these terraces. Your driver can suggest places worth booking.
Manarola, Riomaggiore and the Via dell’Amore
Manarola is the classic postcard view, best from the path above the harbour. The Via dell’Amore, the cliff walk between Riomaggiore and Manarola, reopened in 2024 after years of closure: it is one-way and needs a timed slot booked in advance. Corniglia, on its rock high above the sea, is the one village the boats do not reach.
Pick-up at La Spezia and back to Milan
A last train takes you to La Spezia, where your driver is waiting at the station. Then it is about two and a half to three hours back to your hotel, or to Malpensa or Linate if you are flying out.

Milan to the Cinque Terre: The Route
About 220 km: the A7 to Genoa and the A12 along the coast to the Carrodano exit for Levanto, 2 hours 30 to 3 hours. The way home from La Spezia is either the same coast motorway or the A15 and A1 via Parma, whichever has less traffic.
Cinque Terre Day Trip from Milan — FAQ
The Cinque Terre by private car or by train?
Trains from Milan to La Spezia take roughly three hours, and the first one that gets you there for a full day leaves early from Milan Centrale. The private car starts at your hotel door, drops you right at Levanto station and is waiting at La Spezia, so you do not backtrack along the line and you travel home at your own pace, with no timetable to catch.
What to know before visiting the Cinque Terre
The villages are small and busy, especially between late morning and mid-afternoon in summer, so three or four villages done well is a better plan than racing through five. Wear proper shoes: even the easy paths are steep and stony, and Corniglia sits at the top of a long flight of steps from its station.
How much is a Cinque Terre day trip?
MilanobyCar charges a fixed price per car: from €1,280 for two passengers in a Mercedes E-Class and from €1,440 for up to six in a V-Class, for 12 hours with driver, fuel, tolls and parking included. Train, boat and Cinque Terre Card tickets are extra. The exact price for your date appears in the booking form.
