Brescia from Milan: two thousand years in one walk
Brescia is the second largest city in Lombardy and one of the least known to foreign visitors, yet its centre holds what the city calls the largest and best-preserved Roman archaeological area in northern Italy. The Capitolium, a temple built in 73 AD under the emperor Vespasian, stands on the old forum above a Republican sanctuary with its painted walls, and houses the bronze Winged Victory, the symbol of the city. A short walk away, the monastery of San Salvatore and Santa Giulia, founded in 753 by Desiderius, later the last Longobard king, is now the city museum. Both belong to the UNESCO World Heritage site “The Longobards in Italy”, listed in 2011. About 95 km from Milan on the A4, Brescia is one of the most rewarding day trips from Milan for anyone interested in history.
Much of the old centre is a limited-traffic zone, so your driver drops you at its edge and collects you when you are ready, wherever you finish. The day has room for Piazza della Loggia and the two cathedrals after the museums, and for a Franciacorta winery or the shore of Lake Garda on the way back with an extra hour. The price is per vehicle, not per person: from €650 with an E-Class for two, from €735 with a V-Class for up to six.

Brescia Day Trip Itinerary
An 8-hour day through Roman, Longobard and Venetian Brescia, all on foot in the centre.
Tailor-made, always. This itinerary is our suggestion only: every MilanobyCar day trip is tailor-made. Change the stops, the order and the timing as you like, or tell us your own plan in the booking notes.
Your driver, your local insider. Our chauffeurs are not licensed tour guides and do not guide you inside museums or sites, but they know these places well from years on the road: ask them for the best viewpoints, where to eat, where to stroll and how to avoid the busiest spots. If you would like a licensed guide, we can book one for you.
Pick-up at your hotel in Milan
Your driver meets you in the lobby at the time you choose. The day can also start from Malpensa or Linate arrivals, with your luggage kept safely in the car.
The Capitolium and the Winged Victory
Start at Piazza del Foro. The archaeological park includes the Capitolium, with the Winged Victory displayed in its eastern cell after the restoration of 2019–2021, and the frescoed halls of the Republican sanctuary beneath it. The Roman theatre is temporarily closed for works. The park is closed on non-holiday Mondays.
The Santa Giulia museum
Follow the UNESCO Corridor, a free walkway linking the Roman area to Santa Giulia: the Longobard church of San Salvatore, the frescoed Nuns’ Choir, the Roman houses of the Domus dell’Ortaglia and the jewelled Cross of Desiderius in Santa Maria in Solario.
Brescian cooking
Lunch in the old centre: casoncelli in the Brescian style, manzo all’olio, local cheeses and a glass of Franciacorta from the hills just outside the city. Your driver can suggest a place and book a table.
Piazza della Loggia and the two cathedrals
The Renaissance square built under Venetian rule, with the Loggia and the clock tower whose two figures strike the hours; then Piazza Paolo VI, where the round Romanesque Duomo Vecchio, known as the Rotonda, stands beside the newer cathedral.
Back to your hotel in Milan
Door-to-door return, or drop-off elsewhere: Bergamo airport, Linate or Malpensa. With an extra hour, stop at a Franciacorta winery on the way.

Brescia Day Trip from Milan — FAQ
Brescia by private car or by train?
Brescia is on the high-speed line, and the fastest trains from Milan take well under an hour, so the train is a reasonable option for the city alone. A private car makes sense when you want door-to-door comfort, travel as a family or group, or want to add a Franciacorta winery or Lake Garda, which the train does not combine easily.
What makes Brescia worth a day from Milan?
Few Italian cities show so many periods in so little space: Roman temples, a Longobard monastery, Romanesque and Baroque cathedrals side by side, and Renaissance squares from the centuries of Venetian rule. It is lively but not crowded, and its food and wine, from casoncelli to Franciacorta, are reasons in themselves.
How much is a Brescia day trip?
MilanobyCar charges a fixed price per car: from €650 for two passengers in a Mercedes E-Class and from €735 for up to six in a V-Class, for 8 hours with the distance included, plus fuel, tolls and parking. Museum tickets are extra. The exact price for your date appears in the booking form.
