Private City Tour of Milan by Chauffeur — Your Milan, Your Way

A Milan city tour by private car covers ground that no walking tour can match in 8 hours. From the Duomo to Castello Sforzesco, from the Brera art quarter to the Navigli canals, the city is compact enough to drive end-to-end in minutes — but spread across neighbourhoods that each take 20 minutes on foot. With a private day tour from Milan, you control the pace, the stops, and the time at each location. No groups, no shared vehicle, no fixed departure point.

MilanobyCar has been operating in Milan since 1993. We own our fleet — Mercedes E-Class, V-Class, and S-Class — and every chauffeur is English-speaking, NCC-licensed, and familiar with the city’s restricted zones, parking access points, and the back routes that avoid tourist traffic. The price is fixed per vehicle, not per person: a family of four pays the same as a couple. Book your city tour and confirm the itinerary with us directly before the day.

Unlike hop-on hop-off buses (which follow a fixed loop you cannot alter) or small-group walking tours (which limit pace and coverage), this private city tour is built around your schedule. You decide whether to spend 2 hours at the Duomo area or 20 minutes, whether to add the Santa Maria delle Grazie and Last Supper neighbourhood, and whether to end with aperitivo at the Navigli or return to your hotel early. The chauffeur drives — you explore at your own pace.

MilanobyCar vs alternatives. A hop-on hop-off bus in Milan costs around EUR 25 per person, runs on a fixed circuit every 30 minutes, and cannot stop at Brera, Navigli, or the fashion district on demand. A private walking tour covers 3–4 km and 2–3 attractions in 3 hours. This private car tour covers the entire city in 8 hours, door-to-door from your hotel, with a fixed price from EUR 580 per vehicle regardless of group size.

Milan City Tour Itinerary — What You Will See

This is a suggested sequence based on geography and traffic. All stops, timings, and the order can be adjusted. Let us know your priorities when booking and we will plan the route accordingly.

Morning Start — Hotel Pickup

Piazza del Duomo — The Gothic Cathedral and the Royal Arcade

The Duomo di Milano is the largest Gothic cathedral in the world and the obvious starting point. Your chauffeur parks on Via Dogana, the closest legal access point, giving you a 2-minute walk to the piazza. The exterior alone takes 30 minutes to walk fully. The interior is free; rooftop access (EUR 13 per person, ticketed separately) gives the best views over the city and is worth the extra time if conditions are clear. Across the piazza, the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II — a 19th-century glass-and-iron arcade — is entirely free to walk through. Ground floor is Prada and Louis Vuitton; look up at the dome, not the windows.

Allow 1.5–2 hours Cathedral exterior free · interior EUR 5 · rooftop EUR 13 (optional)
First Historic Landmark

Castello Sforzesco — The Sforza Fortress and Parco Sempione

Five minutes by car from the Duomo, Castello Sforzesco is a 15th-century fortress built by Francesco Sforza on the ruins of an earlier Visconti castle. The main courtyard is free to enter; the towers and inner museums (which contain a Michelangelo sculpture and Leonardo da Vinci drawings) cost EUR 5 per person. Behind the castle, Parco Sempione is Milan’s central park — useful for a 10-minute walk if the group includes children or anyone who needs a break from stone and traffic. The arch of Arco della Pace is visible at the far end of the park from the castle gate.

Allow 45–60 minutes Courtyard free · museums EUR 5 per person (optional)
Art Quarter

Brera District — Pinacoteca di Brera and Via Fiori Chiari

Brera is the neighbourhood most visitors miss because it is not on the hop-on hop-off route. Your chauffeur drops you at the corner of Via Brera and Via Fiori Chiari. From here you walk a 600-metre circuit past independent bookshops, galleries, and one of the best coffee counters in the city (Bar Jamaica, open since 1911). The Pinacoteca di Brera on Via Brera 28 holds Mantegna’s Dead Christ and Caravaggio’s Supper at Emmaus — booking ahead is strongly recommended as timed entry sells out. Entrance EUR 15 per person. The streets themselves are free and worth the walk regardless of the museum.

Allow 1–1.5 hours Streets free · Pinacoteca EUR 15 per person (pre-book recommended)
Modern Milan

Porta Nuova — Bosco Verticale and Milan’s Contemporary Skyline

Porta Nuova is the most photographed contemporary architecture in Milan. Bosco Verticale (the two residential towers with 900 trees growing from the balconies) is best viewed from Piazza Gae Aulenti below. The viewing platform of the UniCredit Tower lobby is publicly accessible on weekdays. This stop is primarily visual — 30 minutes is enough to walk the piazza and take photographs. If you are interested in design, the Triennale di Milano museum is a 10-minute drive west from here and can be substituted if the group prefers it to Porta Nuova.

Allow 30–45 minutes Piazza free · Triennale EUR 15 (optional alternative)
Shopping Stop

Via Montenapoleone — The Milan Fashion Quadrilateral

The Quadrilatero della Moda (fashion quadrilateral) is bounded by Via Montenapoleone, Via della Spiga, Corso Venezia, and Via Manzoni. Your chauffeur drops you at the corner of Via Montenapoleone and Via Borgospesso and waits nearby. The circuit is 1.4 km on foot and covers every major Italian and international fashion house: Versace, Armani, Valentino, Prada, Gucci, Hermès. The buildings are 18th-century palazzi; even if you are not buying, the street architecture is the point. Via della Spiga is slightly quieter and better for windows than Montenapoleone, which gets busy from 11am.

Allow 1–1.5 hours Streets free · shopping at own expense
Afternoon — Canal District

Navigli Canals — Leonardo’s Waterways and Milan’s Aperitivo Scene

The Naviglio Grande and Naviglio Pavese are the only surviving canals from a network that Leonardo da Vinci helped engineer in the 15th century. By early afternoon the Navigli is relaxed — antique shops, small galleries, outdoor seating along the water. From 6pm it becomes the city’s aperitivo district. If your tour extends to early evening, this is where to end it: most bars on the canal offer aperitivo with a free buffet from EUR 8–12 per person. Your chauffeur can wait on Via Vigevano or Ripa di Porta Ticinese while you walk the canal promenade.

Allow 1–1.5 hours Canal promenade free · aperitivo EUR 8–12 per person (at own expense)

What Our Passengers Say

Real reviews from travellers who explored Milan with a MilanobyCar private chauffeur.

★★★★★

“We had our driver for the full day covering the Duomo, Brera, the fashion district, and the Navigli in the evening. He knew exactly where to park, which entrance to use, and when to avoid crowds. No wasted time, no confusion. We covered more in 8 hours than in three previous trips to Milan combined.”

Jennifer K. — New York, USA
Milan private city tour — March 2026
★★★★★

“Four of us used the V-Class for a full day. We changed the itinerary twice during the day — added the Last Supper area, skipped Porta Nuova — and the driver adapted without any issue. The price per person worked out less than a guided walking tour for two. Strongly recommended for families.”

David M. — London, UK
Milan city private tour, V-Class — February 2026
★★★★★

“We booked a city tour combined with a shopping stop at Via Montenapoleone. The driver waited while we went through the district, knew which boutiques were worth the detour, and had cold water ready when we returned. Professional, discreet, and genuinely useful local knowledge throughout the day.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Milan City Private Tour — FAQ

How long is the Milan city private car tour?
The standard package is 8 hours from hotel pickup to drop-off. Extra hours are available at EUR 70 per hour. The itinerary is fully flexible — you decide the pace, the stops, and the time at each location.
Is this a private tour or a shared group tour?
This is an entirely private tour. You travel exclusively with your own group — no other passengers, no shared vehicle, no fixed departure times. The vehicle and chauffeur are at your disposal for the full 8 hours.
What is included in the Milan city private tour price?
Included: private Mercedes vehicle, English-speaking chauffeur for 8 hours, door-to-door hotel pickup and drop-off, all fuel and city parking costs, child seat on request, Wi-Fi on request. Not included: entrance fees to museums (Duomo interior, Pinacoteca di Brera, etc.), meals, drinks, and personal shopping.
Can I customise which Milan neighbourhoods and landmarks we visit?
Yes, entirely. The suggested itinerary covering Duomo, Castello, Brera, Via Montenapoleone, and Navigli is a starting point, not a fixed route. If you prefer to spend more time in the fashion district, add the Last Supper area, or visit Porta Romana instead of Porta Nuova, just let us know when booking.
What vehicles are available for the Milan city tour?
Three vehicles are available: Mercedes E-Class (up to 2 passengers, from EUR 580), Mercedes V-Class (up to 6 passengers, from EUR 640 — most popular for families and groups), and Mercedes S-Class (up to 2 passengers, premium executive sedan — price on request).
Does the tour include a guide or just a chauffeur?
MilanobyCar provides a professional English-speaking chauffeur who knows the city and can point out landmarks, suggest parking access points, and share practical local knowledge. For in-depth art or architecture commentary, we can arrange a licensed guide to join the tour on request — just ask when booking.

Private Milan City Tour vs Hop-on Hop-off Bus or Walking Tour

A hop-on hop-off bus in Milan (around EUR 25 per person) covers 14 stops on a fixed loop running every 25–30 minutes. The route does not enter Brera, does not stop at the Navigli, and cannot reach Via della Spiga or Via Montenapoleone directly. If you miss a bus, you wait. Walking tours typically cover 3–4 km and 2–3 attractions in 3 hours at a pace set by the guide and the group. A private car tour of Milan covers all six major districts in 8 hours, with a professional English-speaking chauffeur who drives while you walk each location at your own pace. The vehicle waits for you at each stop. You do not share it with other passengers. For a family of four, the per-person cost of the private car tour (EUR 640 divided by 4 = EUR 160) is lower than most half-day guided city tours sold on Viator or GetYourGuide, and covers twice the ground.

How Much Does a Private Car Tour of Milan Cost?

MilanobyCar charges a fixed per-vehicle rate: EUR 580 for the Mercedes E-Class (up to 2 passengers) and EUR 640 for the Mercedes V-Class (up to 6 passengers) for the full 8-hour package. The S-Class is available on request. Extra hours cost EUR 70 per hour. The price includes the chauffeur, fuel, and parking at each stop. It does not include museum entrance fees, meals, or shopping. Viator and GetYourGuide list private driver experiences in Milan from EUR 150–250 for 3–4 hours per vehicle through third-party operators; for a full 8-hour day, MilanobyCar’s direct pricing is competitive and does not carry platform commissions. Booking directly at milanobycar.com takes under 2 minutes.

Milan by Private Car: What You Can Cover in 8 Hours

Milan’s historic centre is compact but its most interesting neighbourhoods are spread across 10 km of city. The Duomo and Castello Sforzesco are 1.6 km apart on foot — manageable but slow if you are navigating with bags or children. Brera is 800 metres north of the Castello; Via Montenapoleone is 1.5 km east of the Duomo; the Navigli are 2.5 km south of the centre. Without private transport, moving between these areas means metro changes, tram delays, or 30-minute walks in between each stop. With a private Mercedes, each transfer takes 5–12 minutes. In 8 hours you can visit all six areas with 1 hour at each and still have time for a sit-down lunch. The best season for a city tour is spring (April–June) and autumn (September–October), when outdoor seating along the Navigli and the Brera streets is at its best. The city runs year-round, including during Fashion Week (February and September) when demand for private transport increases sharply.
