Private Day Trip from Milan

Como and Bellagio, door to door by road

This is the Lake Como day for people who would rather not plan around boat timetables. You start in Como, the city at the southern tip of the lake, with its cathedral, its lakefront and the old walled town. Then the car follows the lake road that clings to the eastern shore of the Como branch, through Blevio, Torno, Nesso and Lezzeno, and arrives in Bellagio, the village on the point where the lake divides in two. Of all the day trips from Milan to the lake, it is the one with the fewest connections: the car is with you all day.

The lake road is narrow and winding, and that is exactly why it is better with a driver who knows it than behind the wheel of a rental car. On the way back we usually leave Bellagio over the hills of the Vallassina or by the Lecco side, so you see a second landscape rather than the same road twice. If you would rather follow the western shore through Cernobbio and Tremezzo, see our Bellagio day trip from Milan. The price is per vehicle, not per person: from €600 with an E-Class for two, from €680 with a V-Class for up to six.

Frequently Asked Questions

Como & Bellagio Day Trip from Milan — FAQ

How far are Como and Bellagio from Milan?
Como is about 50 km from Milan, around 50 minutes on the A9 motorway. From Como to Bellagio it is another 30 km on the lake road, which takes about an hour because it is narrow and winding. The way back via the Vallassina or Lecco takes about 1 hour 30 minutes.
How is this different from the other Lake Como day trips?
Here everything is done by car: Como in the morning, then the eastern shore road to Bellagio, with no ferry to wait for. The other options follow the western shore and cross by ferry, or start from Varenna on the eastern side of the lake. If you want Como itself and Bellagio with the least planning, this is the one.
How much does a private day trip from Milan to Como and Bellagio cost?
From €600 per car with a Mercedes E-Class (up to 2 passengers) and from €680 with a V-Class (up to 6), for 8 hours with 150 km included. Saturdays and Sundays are +20%, major holidays +50%, and extra hours cost €75 (E-Class) or €85 (V-Class).
Can the car drive into Como and Bellagio?
The walled centre of Como is a limited-traffic zone, so we drop you on the lakefront by Piazza Cavour and collect you there. In Bellagio the car stops by the lakefront and the ferry landing, and the village is explored on foot, partly on stepped lanes.
Can we add a boat trip?
Yes. Public ferries and private boats leave from the Bellagio lakefront, and a short cruise fits into the afternoon. Tickets are not included; your driver can tell you where to find the departures, and we can extend the day if you need more time.
Is a guide included?
No. Your driver is not a licensed tour guide and does not guide you inside the sites, but after years on these roads he knows Como and Bellagio well and can recommend the best viewpoints, places and restaurants, and give you practical tips for the day. A licensed local guide can be booked on request.

Como and Bellagio by private car or by train?

The train reaches Como from Milan in under an hour, but Bellagio has no railway: from Como you need a ferry or a bus along the lake, and the slow boat takes a good part of the morning. A private car connects both places directly, lets you stop along the lake road and brings you home by a different route.

Why drive the eastern shore?

Most visitors see the Como branch from the western shore or from a boat. The eastern road is quieter, closer to the water and passes villages such as Torno and Nesso that few tourists stop in. It is narrow, which is why a professional driver makes the day relaxed rather than tiring.

How much is a Como and Bellagio day trip?

MilanobyCar charges a fixed price per car: from €600 for two passengers in a Mercedes E-Class and from €680 for up to six in a V-Class, for 8 hours with 150 km included, driver, fuel, tolls and parking. Weekends +20%, holidays +50%, extra hours €75 or €85.
