Verona from Milan, without the train timetable
Verona sits inside a loop of the Adige river, and its historic centre is a UNESCO World Heritage site. In a few hundred metres you pass from a Roman amphitheatre still used for opera to the old market square, the Gothic tombs of the Scaliger lords and the river walk below Castel San Pietro. The city is about 160 km from Milan on the A4, roughly two hours each way, so we plan it as a 10-hour day rather than one of the shorter day trips from Milan.
The centre is a limited-traffic zone and largely pedestrian, so your driver drops you near Piazza Bra and the Arena and meets you again wherever your walk ends. The motorway passes the southern tip of Lake Garda, and the Valpolicella hills, home of Amarone, are about 20 minutes north of the city: a stop in Sirmione or at a winery fits easily into the same day. The price is per vehicle, not per person: from €940 with an E-Class for two, from €1,060 with a V-Class for up to six.
Verona Day at a Glance

Verona Day Trip Itinerary
A 10-hour day with about five hours in Verona, and Lake Garda or the Valpolicella as an option on the way back.
Tailor-made, always. This itinerary is our suggestion only: every MilanobyCar day trip is tailor-made. Change the stops, the order and the timing as you like, or tell us your own plan in the booking notes.
Your driver, your local insider. Our chauffeurs are not licensed tour guides and do not guide you inside museums or sites, but they know these places well from years on the road: ask them for the best viewpoints, where to eat, where to stroll and how to avoid the busiest spots. If you would like a licensed guide, we can book one for you.
Pick-up at your hotel in Milan
Your driver meets you in the lobby at the time you choose. The A4 runs east past Bergamo and Brescia and along the southern end of Lake Garda; a coffee stop on the way is no problem.
Piazza Bra and the Arena
The first-century Roman amphitheatre is one of the best preserved in the world and still hosts the summer opera festival. Visit the interior and the upper tiers, then walk the marble-paved Via Mazzini, Verona’s main shopping street.
Piazza delle Erbe, Piazza dei Signori and Juliet’s House
The Roman forum became the market square, overlooked by the Lamberti Tower. Next door are the quieter Piazza dei Signori and the Scaliger Tombs. Juliet’s House is two minutes away: since April 2026 the courtyard with the balcony is visited only with a timed ticket booked in advance.
Risotto all’Amarone and bigoli
Veronese cooking is hearty: risotto made with Amarone, thick bigoli pasta, and boiled meats served with pearà, a peppery bread sauce. Your driver can suggest places and book a table.
Castelvecchio or Castel San Pietro
The Scaliger castle of Castelvecchio houses the city’s art museum, with its fortified bridge over the Adige. Or cross the Roman Ponte Pietra and go up to Castel San Pietro for the view over the roofs and river.
Back to Milan, or via Lake Garda
Leave Verona around 16:00, or a little earlier for an hour in Sirmione or a tasting in the Valpolicella. Drop-off at your hotel, at Malpensa or Linate, or anywhere else you need.

Milan to Verona: The Route
About 160 km east on the A4 motorway, around two hours each way. The road passes Brescia and the southern shore of Lake Garda, so Sirmione and Peschiera are natural stops.
Verona Day Trip from Milan — FAQ
Verona by private car or by train?
High-speed trains from Milan Centrale reach Verona Porta Nuova in about 1 hour 15 minutes, faster than the motorway, but the station is outside the walls and you still need a taxi or a walk of about 20 minutes to the Arena. A private car is the better choice when you want a door-to-door day for a family or group, or want to add Sirmione or a Valpolicella winery, which are awkward to combine by train.
What to know before a Verona day
Verona rewards walking: the Arena, Piazza delle Erbe, Juliet’s House and the river are all within about 15 minutes of each other on foot. Book Juliet’s House in advance, wear comfortable shoes for the marble and cobbles, and in July and August start early, before the stone squares fill with heat and visitors.
How much is a Verona day trip?
MilanobyCar charges a fixed price per car: from €940 for two passengers in a Mercedes E-Class and from €1,060 for up to six in a V-Class, for 10 hours with distance included, including driver, fuel, tolls and parking. Lake Garda or a winery stop on the way back can usually be fitted into the 10 hours. The exact price for your date appears in the booking form.
