Can the car drive to our hotel in the centre of Florence?
Usually yes. The historic centre is a restricted traffic zone (ZTL), and hotels inside it can register the car's number plate so we can reach the entrance; we send them the details before your arrival. If the hotel cannot do this or the street is pedestrian, the driver stops at the nearest permitted point and helps you with the luggage.

Yes. Parma, Modena and Bologna are all directly on the A1, and the Barberino Designer Outlet is right by the motorway exit before Florence. Is the train faster than a car from Milan to Florence?
For the journey itself, yes: the high-speed train from Milano Centrale to Firenze Santa Maria Novella takes about 1 h 55. The car is the better choice with several suitcases or children, from Malpensa, Bergamo or Lake Como, for very early or late journeys, or when you want to stop on the way.
Can you pick us up at Malpensa and drive straight to Florence?
Yes. The driver waits inside arrivals at Malpensa Terminal 1 or 2, Linate or Bergamo with a name board, follows your flight in real time and includes 60 minutes of free waiting after landing. You go straight to Florence without stopping in Milan, in about 3 h 45 from Malpensa.
Do you also drive from Lake Como to Florence?
Yes. From Como city the drive takes about 3 h 45 and starts from €915; from Bellagio it takes about 4 h 15 and starts from €960. The driver collects you at your hotel or villa on the lake.

Private Car or High-Speed Train from Milan to Florence?
Frecciarossa and Italo trains run from Milano Centrale to Firenze Santa Maria Novella in about 1 h 55, so for one or two people travelling light, with hotels close to both stations, the train is quicker and cheaper. The private car wins in other cases: with several suitcases or children, when you start from Malpensa, Bergamo or Lake Como, when you want to stop in Parma, Modena or Bologna, or for very early and very late journeys. The car takes about 3 h 15 from hotel to hotel, with no transfers at either end, and the price is shared across the whole group.
Arriving in Florence by Car: the ZTL and Hotel Access
The centre of Florence is a restricted traffic zone (ZTL) watched by cameras. Hotels inside it can register a car’s number plate so it can reach the entrance, and we send your hotel the details in advance. Where a hotel cannot do this, or the street is pedestrian, the driver stops at the nearest permitted point, usually a few minutes’ walk away, and helps with the luggage. Florence Peretola airport and Santa Maria Novella station can always be reached directly.
Practical Tips for the Drive and the Return
The A1 is busy around Milan at rush hour, and the Apennine section between Bologna and Florence can slow down on summer Friday and Sunday afternoons, so a mid-morning departure is usually the smoothest. Book the Uffizi or the Accademia before you travel, and the Enzo Ferrari Museum if you plan to stop in Modena. For the return to Malpensa, count about 3 h 45 from central Florence and leave at least 5 hours before an international flight.
