Private Day Trip from Milan

Turin from Milan: a royal capital in a day

Turin was the seat of the House of Savoy and, from 1861 to 1865, the first capital of united Italy. It shows in the long arcaded streets, the formal squares such as Piazza Castello and Piazza San Carlo, and the ring of Savoy residences that UNESCO lists as World Heritage. The city is about 140 km from Milan on the A4, under two hours each way, and is one of the best day trips from Milan for anyone who loves museums, architecture and coffee.

With a private car you arrive at Piazza Castello rather than at Porta Nuova station, and the driver moves you between sights that are not a short walk apart: the Mole Antonelliana, the hill of Superga, or the Reggia di Venaria on the northern edge of the city. The price is per vehicle, not per person: from €810 with an E-Class for two, from €910 with a V-Class for up to six.

Frequently Asked Questions

Turin Day Trip from Milan — FAQ

How far is Turin from Milan?
About 140 km. By car it takes 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours on the A4 motorway, depending on traffic at both ends. Your driver collects you at your hotel and drops you in Piazza Castello.
Do we need to book the Egyptian Museum?
Booking a timed ticket on the museum’s official website is strongly recommended, especially at weekends and in school holidays. The same goes for the Royal Museums and the Mole Antonelliana lift, which can have long queues.
How much does a private day trip from Milan to Turin cost?
From €810 per car with a Mercedes E-Class (up to 2 passengers) and from €910 with a V-Class (up to 6), for 8 hours with distance included. Saturdays and Sundays are +20%, major holidays +50%, and extra hours cost €75 with the E-Class or €85 with the V-Class.
Can we visit the Reggia di Venaria as well?
Yes. The Venaria Royal Palace, the grandest of the Savoy residences, is on the northern edge of Turin, about 20–30 minutes from the centre. Seeing it properly takes two to three hours, so together with a museum in town it makes a long day: consider one or two extra hours.
Can the car drive into central Turin?
Turin has a limited-traffic zone in the historic centre. Your driver drops you at Piazza Castello or as close as the rules allow, and collects you there or wherever you finish.
Is a guide included?
No. Your driver is not a licensed tour guide and does not guide inside the sites, but with years of experience on these roads he can recommend the best places, viewpoints and restaurants and give you practical tips for the day. A licensed local guide for Turin can be booked on request, for example for the Egyptian Museum.

Turin by private car or by train?

High-speed trains link Milan and Turin Porta Nuova in about an hour, which is quicker than the motorway. The private car makes sense when you travel as a family or group, want door-to-door comfort, or want to add the Reggia di Venaria, Superga or a winery in the Langhe area that the train cannot reach.

Why Turin is worth a day from Milan

Turin is less visited than Milan, Venice or Florence, and that is part of its charm: grand but uncrowded squares, eighteen kilometres of porticoes, a world-class Egyptian collection and a café culture that goes back to the 18th century. It is also where Italy’s chocolate tradition is strongest, from gianduiotti to the bicerin.

How much is a Turin day trip?

MilanobyCar charges a fixed price per car: from €810 for two passengers in a Mercedes E-Class and from €910 for up to six in a V-Class, for 8 hours with distance included, including driver, fuel, tolls and parking. Distance is included, so the long run to Turin carries no kilometre surcharge. The exact price for your date appears in the booking form.
