Barolo and the Langhe, with someone else at the wheel
Barolo is a village of a few hundred people and one of the most famous names in Italian wine. It sits in the Langhe, a landscape of steep, vine-striped hills south of Alba where Nebbiolo makes Barolo and Barbaresco. Since 2014 these hills have been part of the UNESCO World Heritage site “Vineyard Landscape of Piedmont: Langhe-Roero and Monferrato”. Barolo is about 170 km from Milan, roughly two hours by motorway, so it is one of the longer day trips from Milan and works best as a full 10-hour day.
The day usually combines the village and its castle, home to the WiMu wine museum, the viewpoint at La Morra, lunch in a Langhe trattoria and one or two cellar visits. Winery visits and tastings must be booked in advance with the producers and are not included in the price; we are happy to help you arrange them. And since nobody in your party has to drive back, tasting Barolo responsibly is simply a matter of pacing yourself. The price is per vehicle, not per person: from €960 with an E-Class for two, from €1,080 with a V-Class for up to six.

Barolo & Langhe Wine Tour Itinerary
A full 10-hour day: two hours each way and six in the hills, with time for a long lunch.
Tailor-made, always. This itinerary is our suggestion only: every MilanobyCar day trip is tailor-made. Change the stops, the order and the timing as you like, or tell us your own plan in the booking notes.
Your driver, your local insider. Our chauffeurs are not licensed tour guides and do not guide you inside museums or sites, but they know these places well from years on the road: ask them for the best viewpoints, where to eat, where to stroll and how to avoid the busiest spots. If you would like a licensed guide, we can book one for you.
Early pick-up at your hotel in Milan
Your driver meets you in the lobby. The motorway runs south past Pavia and west towards Asti, then along the new Asti–Cuneo motorway to Alba, where the Langhe begin.
The village and the Falletti castle
Barolo is small enough to walk end to end. The Falletti castle houses the WiMu, a multimedia museum on wine and the history of the Langhe set over several floors, and the Enoteca Regionale del Barolo in the cellars.
La Morra and the belvedere
A short drive up the hill, La Morra looks over the Barolo vineyards and, on a clear day, the Alps. Below the village, among the Brunate vines, is the Cappella del Barolo, the small chapel repainted by Sol LeWitt and David Tremlett.
Tajarin and Piedmontese cooking
Langhe menus run to vitello tonnato, carne cruda, tajarin (thin egg pasta) and agnolotti del plin. Your driver can suggest a trattoria and book a table.
A winery visit and tasting
Most Barolo producers are family estates that receive visitors by appointment only. Choose one or two cellars in Barolo, La Morra, Monforte or Serralunga d’Alba; we help you book and the car waits outside.
Back to your hotel in Milan
Door-to-door return, or a drop-off elsewhere: Malpensa, Linate, Turin or a hotel in the Langhe if you are staying on.

Barolo Wine Tour from Milan — FAQ
Barolo by private car or by train?
There is no train to Barolo. Public transport from Milan means a train to Alba, usually with a change in Turin, then a local bus or taxi into the hills, and the wineries are scattered across the countryside. A private car is the practical way to see the Langhe in a day from Milan.
What to know before a Barolo day
Barolo DOCG is made only from Nebbiolo in eleven communes around the village, and must age at least 38 months before release. Cellars are working estates, not shops: book visits ahead, expect an appointment time, and allow about an hour for each tasting.
How much is a Barolo day trip?
MilanobyCar charges a fixed price per car: from €960 for two passengers in a Mercedes E-Class and from €1,080 for up to six in a V-Class, for a 10-hour day including driver, fuel, tolls and parking. Tastings are paid to the wineries. The exact price for your date appears in the booking form.
