Understanding the Route

Malpensa to Zermatt by Private Transfer

Zermatt is a car-free village in the Swiss Alps, so the closest accessible location by car is Täsch, about 5 km away. The nearest airports to reach Zermatt are Milan Malpensa, Geneva Airport and Zurich Airport. From these airports travelers continue by train or private transfer to Täsch before taking the shuttle train to Zermatt.

Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) is a particularly practical choice for travellers coming from Southern Europe, the Middle East or the Americas — it offers more direct routes into the region than Geneva or Zurich, and the drive through the Simplon corridor is one of the most scenic in Europe. Malpensa is approximately 180 km from Täsch, and the journey by private transfer takes around 2 hours 45 minutes to 3 hours 15 minutes depending on traffic and border conditions.

MilanobyCar has been operating private transfers from Malpensa to Zermatt since 1997. We operate exclusively with two vehicles — the Mercedes-Benz E-Class for individuals and couples, and the Mercedes-Benz V-Class for families and groups — and every transfer includes a meet & greet inside arrivals, real-time flight monitoring, full luggage assistance and a fixed all-inclusive price with nothing to pay on arrival.

A private taxi from Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) to Zermatt (Täsch) with MilanobyCar costs from €569 for the Mercedes E-Class (up to 2 passengers) and from €664 for the Mercedes V-Class (up to 6 passengers). All prices are fixed and all-inclusive — motorway tolls, Swiss road vignette, meet & greet, flight monitoring and luggage assistance are all included. Nothing to pay on arrival.

How long does the transfer from Malpensa to Zermatt take?

The drive from Milan Malpensa Airport to Täsch takes approximately 2 hours 45 minutes to 3 hours 15 minutes, covering around 180 km via the A26 motorway and the Simplon corridor. Traffic, weather and the Italian–Swiss border crossing can affect journey time. From Täsch, the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn shuttle train adds a further 12 minutes to Zermatt village.

Why does the taxi drop me at Täsch and not inside Zermatt?

Zermatt is a permanently car-free village — all conventional motor vehicles are prohibited from entering. The last point accessible by road is Täsch, approximately 5 km before Zermatt. From Täsch Park & Rail, the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn electric train runs every 20 minutes to Zermatt (12 minutes). Your driver assists with all luggage to the platform and provides full instructions.

Do I need a passport for the Malpensa to Zermatt transfer?

Yes. The route crosses the Italian–Swiss border. Switzerland is not in the EU customs zone, so a valid passport or national identity card is required for all passengers. Non-EU travellers should verify Swiss entry requirements for their nationality before travel.

Can ski bags, snowboards and sports equipment travel in the transfer?

Yes. The Mercedes V-Class accommodates ski bags, snowboard bags and boot bags at no extra charge. For ski equipment on the E-Class, please mention this at booking — a vehicle upgrade may be recommended depending on volume. All loading and unloading is handled by your driver.

Where does the driver meet me at Malpensa Airport?

Your MilanobyCar driver waits inside the arrivals hall of Malpensa Terminal 1 or Terminal 2, holding a personalised name board — past the customs exit. You do not need to go outside or find a taxi rank. Your driver's name and direct WhatsApp number are sent in the booking confirmation.

What happens if my flight to Malpensa is delayed?

Flight monitoring is included as standard. Your driver tracks your flight in real time and adjusts their arrival automatically. Whether you land 30 minutes early or 3 hours late, your driver is in the arrivals hall when you exit customs — at no extra charge. No calls needed.

Can I stop at Lake Maggiore or Stresa on the way?

Yes. The route passes directly alongside Lake Maggiore, and Stresa makes a beautiful coffee stop. The Simplon Pass is available in summer (winter: route via Simplon Tunnel). Please request stops at booking so your driver can plan timing and ensure you reach Täsch for the last evening train.

Is the transfer available at night and during the ski season?

Yes. MilanobyCar operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year — including early morning arrivals, late-night flights and all ski season dates. Winter is our busiest season for this route. The Mercedes E-Class and V-Class are fully equipped for Alpine winter conditions, and the Simplon Tunnel route remains reliable year-round.
