How much does a private chauffeur from Milan to Zurich cost?
A private transfer from Milan city to Zurich starts from €850 per car for a Mercedes E-Class with up to 2 passengers, and from €920 for a Mercedes V-Class with up to 6 passengers, on a weekday daytime transfer. From Malpensa it starts from €830 and from Linate from €880; Milan to Zurich Airport starts from €890. Night-time transfers, high-season weekends and public holidays are priced differently. The price is per car, not per person, and includes fuel, motorway tolls, the Swiss vignette and parking. Enter your trip in the booking form to see the exact price for your date.
How long is the drive from Milan to Zurich?
About 3 h 15 for the 280 km from central Milan to Zurich city centre via Lugano, the Gotthard Tunnel and Lucerne, and about 3 h 20 to Zurich Airport. On summer weekends and holidays the Gotthard can add 30 to 60 minutes of queues.
Is the train faster than a car from Milan to Zurich?
They are similar. The direct EuroCity train from Milano Centrale to Zürich HB takes about 3 h 20; a private car takes about 3 h 15 door to door. The car is easier from Malpensa, with luggage or children, or when you want privacy to work on the way.
Can you drive us to Zurich Airport?
Yes. Milan to Zurich Airport (ZRH) starts from €890 and Malpensa to Zurich Airport from €870 per car. We plan the departure time around your flight with a safety margin for the Gotthard and the border.
Do we need a passport to go from Milan to Zurich?
Switzerland is in the Schengen area, so there is normally no passport control, but it is not in the EU and customs checks can happen at Chiasso. Every passenger should carry a valid passport or national ID card, and goods above the duty-free allowance must be declared.
Is the Swiss motorway vignette included?
Yes. Our cars already carry the Swiss vignette, and fuel, motorway tolls and parking are all included in the price you confirm.
Can we stop in Lugano or Lucerne on the way?
Yes. Lugano and Lucerne are directly on the route. Tell us which stop you would like when you book: the driver parks and waits while you visit, your luggage stays in the car, and the extra time is included in the quote you confirm before paying.
Do you also drive from Zurich back to Milan?
Yes. We collect you at your hotel or office in Zurich or at Zurich Airport and drive you to any Milan address or to Malpensa, Linate or Bergamo airport. Zurich to Milan starts from €865 and Zurich Airport to Malpensa from €900 per car. For an afternoon flight from Malpensa, leave Zurich about six hours before take-off.
Do you drive between Zurich and Lake Como?
Yes. Como to Zurich starts from €775, Bellagio to Zurich from €710 and Tremezzo to Zurich from €785, and Zurich Airport to Como from €795 per car.
Do you provide child seats?
Yes. Baby seats, child seats and boosters are free of charge on long journeys such as Milan to Zurich. Tell us the age of each child when you book so we can prepare the right seats.
How many passengers and suitcases fit in the car?
The Mercedes E-Class takes up to 2 passengers with 2 large suitcases and cabin bags. The Mercedes V-Class takes up to 6 passengers with their luggage, at the same price for 1 to 6 people. With several large suitcases we recommend the V-Class rather than the S-Class, whose boot is smaller.
Is MilanobyCar a local company?
Yes. MilanobyCar is a licensed NCC private hire company based in Milan since 1993, run by Adrian and a small team. We are not a global platform or a booking app: you deal with the same people from the first email to the end of your trip. When we work with trusted local partner chauffeurs, MilanobyCar remains responsible for your booking.

Train or Private Car from Milan to Zurich?
EuroCity trains run directly from Milano Centrale to Zürich HB in about 3 h 20 through the Gotthard Base Tunnel, and for one or two people with light luggage, with hotels near both stations, the train is a good option. The private car takes about 3 h 15 from door to door, with no luggage to carry through stations, and is the better choice from Malpensa, with children, for confidential business calls on the way, or for a group of three to six people sharing one price.
The Swiss Border and Customs
The route crosses into Switzerland at Chiasso, just after Como. Switzerland is in the Schengen area but not in the EU, so customs checks can happen: every passenger needs a valid passport or national ID card, and goods above the Swiss duty-free allowance, including large amounts of cash and new purchases, must be declared. The Swiss motorway vignette is already on our cars and included in the price.
Practical Tips: Gotthard Queues and the Drive Back
On summer weekends, at Easter and at the start of the school holidays the Gotthard Tunnel can have long queues, so we plan the departure time with you to avoid the peaks. For an afternoon flight from Malpensa we usually suggest leaving Zurich about six hours before take-off, and about six and a half hours for Linate.
