Milan to Interlaken by Private Car: About 3 h 45, No Changes

A private chauffeur from Milan to Interlaken covers about 330 km and takes around 3 h 45 from central Milan, and about the same from Malpensa. Your driver collects you at your hotel, home or office, or inside arrivals at the airport, and drives you past Como and Lugano, through the Gotthard Tunnel to Lucerne and over the Brünig Pass to the door of your hotel in Interlaken. The price is for the whole car, not per person, and includes fuel, motorway tolls, the Swiss motorway vignette and parking.

By train the same trip usually means a change in Spiez or Brig, or two changes via Lucerne, and around 4 hours with luggage on every platform. With the car there are no changes, the bags stay in the boot, and you can stop for coffee in Lugano or lunch on Lake Lucerne on the way.

We also drive further into the Jungfrau region: Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen and Wengen’s car park at Lauterbrunnen are all a few minutes beyond Interlaken. Check your price and book online →

Why book with a local company? Global booking platforms pass your trip to whichever operator is free, so you rarely know who is coming. With MilanobyCar you deal with the same small Milan team from the first email to the moment you arrive. When we work with trusted local partner chauffeurs, MilanobyCar remains responsible for your booking, the car and the price.

A private transfer from Milan city to Interlaken starts from €810 per car for a Mercedes E-Class with up to 2 passengers, and from €880 for a Mercedes V-Class with up to 6 passengers, on a weekday daytime transfer. From Malpensa it starts from €795 and from Linate from €840. Night-time transfers, high-season weekends and public holidays are priced differently. The price is per car, not per person, and includes fuel, motorway tolls, the Swiss vignette and parking. Enter your trip in the booking form to see the exact price for your date.

How long is the drive from Milan to Interlaken?

About 3 h 45 for the 330 km from central Milan via Lugano, the Gotthard Tunnel, Lucerne and the Brünig Pass, and about the same from Malpensa. On summer weekends and holidays the Gotthard can add 30 to 60 minutes of queues.

Is there a direct train from Milan to Interlaken?

No. Trains from Milano Centrale to Interlaken Ost take about 4 hours with a change in Spiez or Brig. A private car takes about 3 h 45 to your hotel door with no changes, which is easier with luggage, skis or children.

Which route do you take to Interlaken?

Usually the motorway via Como, Lugano and the Gotthard road tunnel to Lucerne, then over the Brünig Pass. When the Gotthard is congested we can take the Simplon Pass and the Lötschberg car train from Goppenstein to Kandersteg; the car train fee is not included and is added to the quote.

Do we need a passport to go from Milan to Interlaken?

Switzerland is in the Schengen area, so there is normally no passport control, but it is not in the EU and customs checks can happen at the border. Every passenger should carry a valid passport or national ID card, and goods above the duty-free allowance must be declared.

Can you drive us to Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen or Wengen?

Yes. Milan to Grindelwald starts from €865 and Milan to Lauterbrunnen from €840 per car. Wengen and Mürren are car-free, so we drop you at the train or cable car station in Lauterbrunnen or Stechelberg.

Can we stop in Lugano or Lucerne on the way?

Yes. Lugano and Lucerne are directly on the route. Tell us which stop you would like when you book: the driver parks and waits while you visit, your luggage stays in the car, and the extra time is included in the quote you confirm before paying.

Do you also drive from Interlaken back to Milan?

Yes. We collect you at your hotel in Interlaken or the Jungfrau region and drive you to any Milan address or to Malpensa, Linate or Bergamo airport. Interlaken to Milan starts from €830 and Interlaken to Malpensa from €815 per car. For an afternoon flight from Malpensa, leave Interlaken about six hours before take-off.

Do you drive to Interlaken from Lake Como?

Yes. Como to Interlaken starts from €730, Tremezzo from €740 and Bellagio from €845 per car, about 3 h 15 to 3 h 45 depending on where you stay on the lake.

Do you provide child seats?

Yes. Baby seats, child seats and boosters are free of charge on long journeys such as Milan to Interlaken. Tell us the age of each child when you book so we can prepare the right seats.

How many passengers and suitcases fit in the car?

The Mercedes E-Class takes up to 2 passengers with 2 large suitcases and cabin bags. The Mercedes V-Class takes up to 6 passengers with their luggage or skis, at the same price for 1 to 6 people. With several large suitcases we recommend the V-Class rather than the S-Class, whose boot is smaller.

Is MilanobyCar a local company?

Yes. MilanobyCar is a licensed NCC private hire company based in Milan since 1993, run by Adrian and a small team. We are not a global platform or a booking app: you deal with the same people from the first email to the end of your trip. When we work with trusted local partner chauffeurs, MilanobyCar remains responsible for your booking.

Enter your pick-up, destination, date and time in the booking form on this page to see the price and book online, or contact us by WhatsApp or phone at +39 335 821 0912 or by email at booking@milanobycar.com. Train or Private Car from Milan to Interlaken?

Trains from Milano Centrale reach Interlaken Ost in about 4 hours with a change in Spiez or Brig. For one or two people with light luggage it is a comfortable option. The private car takes about 3 h 45 from door to door with no changes, which makes the difference with suitcases, skis or children, from Malpensa, and for a group of three to six people sharing one price.

Gotthard, Simplon and the Swiss Border

The main route uses the Gotthard road tunnel, which is free; at peak times there can be queues at the entrance, and in that case we may use the Simplon Pass and the Lötschberg car train between Goppenstein and Kandersteg instead. Switzerland is in the Schengen area but not in the EU, so customs checks can happen at the border: every passenger needs a valid passport or national ID card, and goods above the duty-free allowance must be declared.

Practical Tips: Jungfraujoch, Car-Free Villages and the Drive Back

For the Jungfraujoch, trains leave from Interlaken Ost, Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen, so we can drop you directly at the station with your luggage sent ahead to the hotel. Wengen and Mürren are car-free: we take you to the train or cable car in Lauterbrunnen or Stechelberg. For an afternoon flight from Malpensa we usually suggest leaving Interlaken about six hours before take-off.
