Milan to Geneva by Private Car: About 3 h 45, Door to Door

A private car service from Milan to Geneva covers about 320 km and takes around 3 h 45 from central Milan, and about 3 h 30 from Malpensa, which is on the Geneva side of the city. Your driver collects you at your hotel, home or office, or inside arrivals at the airport, and drives you up the Aosta Valley, through the Mont Blanc Tunnel to Chamonix and on to the door of your hotel in Geneva or the departures area of Geneva Airport. The price is for the whole car, not per person, and includes fuel, motorway tolls and parking.

The direct train from Milano Centrale to Geneva takes about 4 hours and is a good choice for one or two people travelling light between the two main stations. The car makes the difference with luggage or skis, children, an early or late flight, or a hotel far from the station, and the price is shared by up to six passengers in a Mercedes V-Class.

In winter or when the Mont Blanc Tunnel is closed for maintenance, we drive the alternative route over the Simplon Pass and along Lake Geneva, or through the Great St Bernard Tunnel. Your driver checks the conditions before departure. Check your price and book online →

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions — Milan to Geneva

How much does a private car from Milan to Geneva cost?

A private transfer from Milan city to Geneva starts from €960 per car for a Mercedes E-Class with up to 2 passengers, and from €1,045 for a Mercedes V-Class with up to 6 passengers, on a weekday daytime transfer. From Malpensa it starts from €940 and from Linate from €1,000; Milan to Geneva Airport starts from €1,020. Night-time transfers, high-season weekends and public holidays are priced differently. The price is per car, not per person, and includes fuel, motorway tolls and parking; the Mont Blanc Tunnel fee is extra. Enter your trip in the booking form to see the exact price for your date.

How long is the drive from Milan to Geneva?

About 3 h 45 for the 320 km from central Milan via the Aosta Valley and the Mont Blanc Tunnel, and about 3 h 30 from Malpensa. The alternative route over the Simplon Pass and along Lake Geneva takes about 4 h 30. On winter weekends and at the tunnel at peak times allow extra time.

Is the Mont Blanc Tunnel toll included?

No. Motorway tolls, fuel and parking are included, but the Mont Blanc Tunnel and Great St Bernard Tunnel fees are not and are added to your quote. The Simplon Pass route has no tunnel fee.

Is there a direct train from Milan to Geneva?

Yes. Direct trains from Milano Centrale to Genève Cornavin take about 4 hours via the Simplon line. The train suits one or two people travelling light between the two stations; a private car takes about 3 h 45 door to door and is easier with luggage, skis, children or a flight to catch.

Do we need a passport to go from Milan to Geneva?

Switzerland is in the Schengen area, so there is normally no passport control, but it is not in the EU and customs checks can happen at the border. Every passenger should carry a valid passport or national ID card, and goods above the duty-free allowance must be declared.

Can you drive us to Geneva Airport?

Yes. Milan to Geneva Airport (GVA) starts from €1,020 and Malpensa to Geneva Airport from €1,000 per car. We plan the departure time around your flight with a safety margin for the tunnel and the border.

Can we stop on the way to Geneva?

Yes. Aosta, Courmayeur and Chamonix are directly on the main route. Tell us which stop you would like when you book: the driver parks and waits while you visit, your luggage stays in the car, and the extra time is included in the quote you confirm before paying.

What happens if the Mont Blanc Tunnel is closed?

The tunnel is sometimes closed at night or for planned maintenance. In that case we drive through the Great St Bernard Tunnel or over the Simplon Pass and along Lake Geneva, and tell you the new journey time in advance.

Do you also drive from Geneva back to Milan?

Yes. We collect you at your hotel in Geneva or at Geneva Airport and drive you to any Milan address or to Malpensa, Linate or Bergamo airport. Geneva to Milan starts from €980 and Geneva Airport to Malpensa from €1,030 per car. For an afternoon flight from Malpensa, leave Geneva about six hours before take-off.

Do you drive to Geneva from Lake Como, Lausanne or Montreux?

Yes. Como to Geneva starts from €860 and Bellagio to Geneva from €960 per car. From Milan we also drive to Montreux from €940 and to Lausanne from €1,025.

Do you provide child seats?

Yes. Baby seats, child seats and boosters are free of charge on long journeys such as Milan to Geneva. Tell us the age of each child when you book so we can prepare the right seats.

How many passengers and suitcases fit in the car?

The Mercedes E-Class takes up to 2 passengers with 2 large suitcases and cabin bags. The Mercedes V-Class takes up to 6 passengers with their luggage or skis, at the same price for 1 to 6 people. With several large suitcases we recommend the V-Class rather than the S-Class, whose boot is smaller.

Is MilanobyCar a local company?

Yes. MilanobyCar is a licensed NCC private hire company based in Milan since 1993, run by Adrian and a small team. We are not a global platform or a booking app: you deal with the same people from the first email to the end of your trip. When we work with trusted local partner chauffeurs, MilanobyCar remains responsible for your booking.

Enter your pick-up, destination, date and time in the booking form on this page to see the price and book online, or contact us by WhatsApp or phone at +39 335 821 0912 or by email at booking@milanobycar.com. Train or Private Car from Milan to Geneva?

Direct trains run from Milano Centrale to Genève Cornavin in about 4 hours via the Simplon line, so for one or two people with light luggage and hotels near both stations the train is a good option. The private car takes about 3 h 45 from door to door, with no luggage to carry through stations, and becomes the better choice from Malpensa, with children or skis, for very early or late journeys, or for a group of three to six people sharing one price.

Mont Blanc Tunnel, Simplon Pass and the Border

The quickest route uses the Mont Blanc Tunnel between Courmayeur and Chamonix. The tunnel toll is not included in our price and is added to your quote; the tunnel is sometimes closed at night or for maintenance periods, and in that case we take the Great St Bernard Tunnel or the Simplon Pass, which is free and open all year but slower. Switzerland is in the Schengen area but not in the EU, so customs checks can happen when entering Switzerland: every passenger needs a valid passport or national ID card, and goods above the duty-free allowance must be declared.

Practical Tips: Ski Weekends, Snow and the Drive Back

On winter Saturdays the Aosta Valley and the roads around Chamonix are busy with ski traffic, and snow chains or winter tyres are compulsory in the mountains; our cars are equipped for winter conditions. For an afternoon flight from Malpensa we usually suggest leaving Geneva about six hours before take-off, and about six and a half hours for Linate.
