A private transfer from Malpensa to La Thuile covers about 215 km and takes around 2 h 30: the A26 and A4 motorways to Santhià, the A5 up the Aosta Valley past Aosta to Pré-Saint-Didier, then 10 km of mountain road up to La Thuile at 1,441 m. From central Milan it is also about 2 h 30, from Linate about 2 h 45 and from Bergamo about 3 hours. Many of our winter guests fly into Malpensa and never go into Milan at all. The price is for the whole car, not per person, and includes fuel, motorway tolls and parking.
It is one of the easiest ski resorts to reach from Milan: motorway almost to the door, no border and open all year, as the road to La Thuile is kept clear all winter. The Little St Bernard Pass above the village, the summer road into France, is closed from late autumn to late spring, but the ski area crosses the border on skis to La Rosière. By public transport the same trip means a train from Milan to Aosta, with a change, and two buses up the valley, with your ski bags on every step.

Is there a train from Milan to La Thuile?
There is no train to La Thuile. You can take a train from Milan to Aosta, usually with a change, and then buses up the valley via Pré-Saint-Didier: well over four hours from Milan, and longer from Malpensa. A private car takes about 2 h 30 to your hotel with no changes.
Do you also drive to Courmayeur?
Yes. Malpensa to Courmayeur starts from €650 and Milan city to Courmayeur from €670 per car, about 2 h 20, and we drive between La Thuile and Courmayeur, 25 minutes apart. Courmayeur has its own page.
Can we ski into France from La Thuile?
Yes, on skis only. The Espace San Bernardo links La Thuile with La Rosière in France on the slopes, so you cross the border on skis; take a passport or ID card with you. By car it is a different story: the Little St Bernard Pass road between La Thuile and La Rosière is closed from late autumn to late spring, so in winter a transfer to La Rosière or the Tarentaise goes the long way round through a tunnel and takes hours.

Which Airport for La Thuile: Malpensa, Turin or Geneva?
Malpensa and Milan city are both about 2 h 30 from La Thuile by car, Linate about 2 h 45 and Bergamo about 3 hours. Turin Airport is about 2 hours and Geneva about 2 hours through the Mont Blanc tunnel, but Malpensa has the widest choice of long-haul and international flights. For most guests flying in from abroad, Malpensa with a private car straight to the hotel is the simplest option, with motorway almost all the way and no border.
La Thuile and the Espace San Bernardo
La Thuile lies at 1,441 m in a side valley below the Little St Bernard Pass, about 10 km above Pré-Saint-Didier. Its ski area, the Espace San Bernardo, is linked on skis with La Rosière in France, so you can ski across the border while the road over the pass is closed for the winter: there is no winter road from La Thuile into France, and we always reach La Thuile from the Aosta Valley side. In summer the pass opens and the road continues into France, down to Bourg-Saint-Maurice and the Tarentaise valley.
Practical Tips: Weekends, Ski Bags and the Drive Back
La Thuile is a favourite weekend resort for people from Milan and Turin, so Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons on the A5 and A4 can be busy; we plan extra time. Tell us how many ski bags you travel with so we send the V-Class if needed. For an afternoon flight from Malpensa, we usually suggest leaving La Thuile about four and a half hours before take-off.
