Malpensa or Milan to Courmayeur by Private Car: About 2½ Hours

A private transfer from Malpensa to Courmayeur covers about 200 km and takes around 2 h 20: the A26 and A4 motorways to Santhià, then the A5 all the way up the Aosta Valley, past Aosta, to the last exit before the Mont Blanc tunnel. From central Milan it is also about 2 h 20, from Linate about 2 h 35 and from Bergamo about 2 h 50. Many of our winter guests fly into Malpensa and never go into Milan at all. The price is for the whole car, not per person, and includes fuel, motorway tolls and parking.

It is the easiest of the big Alpine resorts to reach from Milan: motorway almost to the door, no mountain pass and no border, open all year. By public transport the same trip means a train from Milan to Aosta, with a change, and a bus up the valley: around four hours from Milan, and longer from Malpensa, with your ski bags on every step.

We drive to every part of Courmayeur, from hotels in the pedestrian centre to Dolonne, Entrèves, the Skyway Monte Bianco cable car at Pontal d’Entrèves, Val Veny and Val Ferret, and to La Thuile, 25 minutes away. Check your price and book online →

Courmayeur lies at 1,224 m on the Italian side of Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in the Alps. Its ski area rises above the village from Dolonne and Plan Checrouit, while the Skyway Monte Bianco cable car climbs from Pontal d’Entrèves to Punta Helbronner at 3,466 m, open in winter and summer. Val Veny and Val Ferret, on either side of the village, are known for cross-country skiing in winter and hiking in summer.

Practical Tips: Weekends, Ski Bags and the Drive Back

Courmayeur is a favourite weekend resort for people from Milan and Turin, so Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons on the A5 and A4 can be busy; we plan extra time. Tell us how many ski bags you travel with so we send the V-Class if needed. For an afternoon flight from Malpensa, we usually suggest leaving Courmayeur about four and a half hours before take-off.
