Malpensa or Milan to Zermatt by Private Car: About 3 Hours

A private transfer from Malpensa to Zermatt covers about 185 km and takes around 2 h 50 to Täsch, the village 5 km below Zermatt where every car has to stop. From central Milan it is about 3 h 15, from Linate about 3 h 30 and from Bergamo about 3 h 45. Malpensa is the closest major airport to Zermatt, which is why most of our winter guests never go into Milan at all: the driver meets them inside arrivals and drives straight past Lake Maggiore, through Domodossola and over the Simplon Pass into the Valais. The price is for the whole car, not per person, and includes fuel, motorway tolls, the Swiss vignette and parking.

Zermatt is car-free, so no private car, taxi or transfer company can drive you into the village. We take you to the Matterhorn Terminal Täsch, help you with the luggage trolleys to the platform, and the shuttle train runs up to Zermatt every 20 minutes in 12 minutes. At Zermatt station the electric taxis and the hotel e-cars take you to the door. By public transport from Malpensa the same trip means three or four trains and around four and a half to five hours with your ski bags.

We also drive to Saas-Fee, which is reached by car, and to Visp, Brig and the other villages of the Valais. Check your price and book online →

Why book with a local company? Global booking platforms pass your trip to whichever operator is free, so you rarely know who is coming. With MilanobyCar you deal with the same small Milan team from the first email to the moment you arrive. When we work with trusted local partner chauffeurs, MilanobyCar remains responsible for your booking, the car and the price.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions — Malpensa and Milan to Zermatt

How much does a private transfer from Malpensa to Zermatt cost?

A private transfer from Malpensa Airport to Täsch, the last stop by car before Zermatt, starts from €615 per car for a Mercedes E-Class with up to 2 passengers, and from €650 for the Mercedes V-Class with up to 6 passengers. From Milan city it starts from €720, from Linate from €765 and from Bergamo Airport from €880. Night-time transfers, Christmas, New Year, February weekends and public holidays are priced differently. The price is per car, not per person, and includes fuel, tolls, the Swiss vignette and parking. Enter your trip in the booking form to see the exact price for your date.

How long does it take from Malpensa to Zermatt?

About 2 h 50 for the 185 km from Malpensa to Täsch over the Simplon Pass, plus 12 minutes on the shuttle train to Zermatt. From Milan city it takes about 3 h 15, from Linate about 3 h 30 and from Bergamo about 3 h 45. Snow on the Simplon or traffic around Milan can add 20 to 40 minutes.

Can a car drive into Zermatt?

No. Zermatt is car-free, so every private car, taxi and transfer stops at the Matterhorn Terminal in Täsch, 5 km below the village. The shuttle train leaves about every 20 minutes and takes 12 minutes; luggage trolleys can go on the train, and electric taxis wait at Zermatt station. The shuttle ticket is not included in our price.

Which airport is closest to Zermatt?

Milan Malpensa is the closest major international airport, about 2 h 50 by car to Täsch. Geneva is about 3 h 30 to 4 hours and Zurich about 3 h 30 with the Lötschberg car train. Linate and Bergamo in Milan add 30 to 55 minutes compared with Malpensa.

Can you pick us up at Malpensa and drive straight to Zermatt?

Yes, and most of our winter guests do exactly that. The driver follows your flight in real time, waits inside arrivals at Terminal 1 or 2 with a name board, includes 60 minutes of free waiting after landing and drives straight to Täsch without stopping in Milan.

Is the Simplon Pass open in winter?

Yes. The Simplon Pass is kept open all year and is the usual winter route from Milan to Zermatt. After heavy snowfall chains can be required for a few hours; our cars are equipped for winter. If the pass is closed we use the car train from Iselle to Brig, whose ticket is paid separately.

Is there a train from Malpensa to Zermatt?

Yes, but with three or four changes, usually via Gallarate or Milan, Domodossola, Brig or Visp, around four and a half to five hours in total. A private car takes about 2 h 50 to Täsch with no changes, then 12 minutes on the shuttle train.

Do we need a passport to go from Milan to Zermatt?

Switzerland is in the Schengen area, so there is normally no passport control, but it is not in the EU and customs checks can happen at the border at Gondo. Every passenger should carry a valid passport or national ID card, and goods above the duty-free allowance must be declared.

Can you take our skis?

Yes. Ski and snowboard bags fit in the Mercedes V-Class together with the luggage of up to 6 passengers. Tell us how many ski bags you have when you book so we send the right car.

Do you also drive to Saas-Fee?

Yes. Saas-Fee can be reached by car, so we drive you to the village car park at the entrance of the resort. Malpensa to Saas-Fee starts from €605 and Milan city to Saas-Fee from €710 per car. Malpensa to Visp starts from €520.

Do you also drive from Zermatt back to Malpensa?

Yes. Täsch to Malpensa starts from €630, to Milan city from €740, to Linate from €785 and to Bergamo from €900 per car. The driver waits for you at the Matterhorn Terminal; for a Malpensa flight take the shuttle from Zermatt about five and a half hours before take-off.

Do you drive from Lake Como to Zermatt?

Yes. Tremezzo to Täsch starts from €675, Bellagio from €710 and Como from €745 per car, about 3 h 15 to 3 h 45.

Do you provide child seats?

Yes. Baby seats, child seats and boosters are free of charge on long journeys such as Malpensa to Zermatt. Tell us the age of each child when you book so we can prepare the right seats.

Is MilanobyCar a local company?

Yes. MilanobyCar is a licensed NCC private hire company based in Milan since 1993, run by Adrian and a small team. We are not a global platform or a booking app: you deal with the same people from the first email to the end of your trip. Which Airport for Zermatt: Malpensa, Geneva or Zurich?

Milan Malpensa is the closest major international airport to Zermatt: about 2 h 50 by car to Täsch over the Simplon Pass. Geneva is about 3 h 30 to 4 hours along Lake Geneva and the Rhône valley, and Zurich about 3 h 30 using the Lötschberg car train. Linate and Bergamo add 30 to 55 minutes compared with Malpensa. Sion has a small regional airport with few scheduled flights. For most guests flying in from abroad, Malpensa with a private car straight to Täsch is the shortest door-to-door option.

Why Cars Stop in Täsch

Zermatt has been car-free for decades: only small electric vehicles run in the village. Every private car, taxi and transfer stops at the Matterhorn Terminal Täsch, 5 km below Zermatt, where the shuttle train leaves about every 20 minutes and takes 12 minutes. Luggage trolleys can be taken onto the train, and at Zermatt station electric taxis and hotel e-cars wait for arriving guests. Many hotels collect you at the station if you tell them your train.

The Simplon Pass and the Swiss Border in Winter

The Simplon Pass (2,005 m) is kept open all year and is the usual winter route from Milan; after heavy snowfall chains can be required for a few hours, and our cars are equipped for winter. If the pass is closed, we use the car train from Iselle to Brig through the Simplon tunnel. The route crosses into Switzerland at Gondo: Switzerland is in the Schengen area but not in the EU, so customs checks can happen and every passenger needs a valid passport or national ID card. For a Malpensa flight on the way back, we usually suggest taking the shuttle from Zermatt about five and a half hours before take-off.
