Malpensa or Milan to Saas-Fee by Private Car: Under 3 Hours

A private transfer from Malpensa to Saas-Fee covers about 190 km and takes around 2 h 50: past Lake Maggiore to Domodossola, over the Simplon Pass to Brig and Visp, then up the Saas valley through Stalden and Saas-Grund to Saas-Fee at 1,800 m. Malpensa is on the right side of Milan for the Valais: from central Milan the trip is about 3 h 15, from Linate about 3 h 15 and from Bergamo about 3 h 30. The price is for the whole car, not per person, and includes fuel, motorway tolls, the Swiss vignette and parking.

Saas-Fee is car-free. We drive you to the car park at the entrance of the village, where electric taxis and hotel shuttles take you and your luggage to the door; many hotels will collect you if you tell them your arrival time. The Simplon is kept open all winter, so there is no tunnel toll and no car train to book. By public transport the trip from Milan means a train to Brig or Visp and the PostBus up the valley, three and a half to four hours with your ski bags on every step.

We also drive to Saas-Grund, Saas-Almagell and Saas-Balen, where cars can reach the hotel door, and on request to Grächen. Check your price and book online →

Malpensa Is the Closest Big Airport to Saas-Fee

At about 2 h 50 by car, Malpensa is closer to Saas-Fee than Geneva or Zurich, and it has many long-haul and international flights. From central Milan and Linate it is about 3 h 15 and from Bergamo about 3 h 30. Whichever Milan airport you fly into, we meet you inside arrivals and drive you straight over the Simplon to the Saas valley.

Saas-Fee, the Pearl of the Alps

Saas-Fee lies at 1,800 m at the end of the Saas valley in the Swiss canton of Valais, ringed by more than a dozen peaks over 4,000 m, among them the Dom, the highest mountain entirely in Switzerland. The village is car-free, and its ski area climbs to the Allalin glacier, where the Metro Alpin underground funicular reaches about 3,500 m and the season on the glacier runs for much of the year.

Practical Tips: the Car-Free Village, the Border and the Drive Back

Cars are not allowed in Saas-Fee: we stop at the car park at the village entrance, and electric taxis or hotel shuttles take you the last few hundred metres. Tell your hotel your arrival time and many will be waiting. The Simplon Pass is kept open all year; after heavy snowfall chains can be required for a few hours. Switzerland is in the Schengen area but not in the EU, so customs checks can happen at Gondo and every passenger needs a valid passport or national ID card. For an afternoon flight from Malpensa, we usually suggest leaving Saas-Fee about five and a half hours before take-off.
