Malpensa or Milan to Crans-Montana by Private Car: About 3 Hours

A private transfer from Malpensa to Crans-Montana covers about 210 km and takes around 3 hours: past Lake Maggiore to Domodossola, over the Simplon Pass to Brig, along the Rhône valley to Sierre and up the winding road to Crans-Montana at 1,500 m. Malpensa is on the right side of Milan for the Valais: from central Milan the trip is about 3 h 30, from Linate about 3 h 25 and from Bergamo about 3 h 40. The price is for the whole car, not per person, and includes fuel, motorway tolls, the Swiss vignette and parking.

The Simplon is kept open all winter, so there is no tunnel toll and no car train to book. By public transport the trip from Milan means a train to Brig, a change for Sierre and the funicular up to Montana: three and a half to four hours with your ski bags on every platform. With a private car you go from the arrivals hall to the door of your hotel.

We drive to every hotel and chalet in Crans, Montana and Aminona, and on request to Anzère, Leukerbad and the other resorts of the Valais. Check your price and book online →

Malpensa, Milan or Geneva for Crans-Montana?

Malpensa is one of the closest international airports to Crans-Montana, about 3 hours by car over the Simplon, with no need to cross Milan. Geneva is about 2 h 15 along Lake Geneva and the Rhône valley. From central Milan and Linate it is about 3 h 30 and from Bergamo about 3 h 40. Malpensa has many long-haul and international flights, so for many guests landing there and driving straight to the Valais is the easiest way in. Whichever Milan airport you fly into, we meet you inside arrivals and drive you to the door of your hotel.

Crans-Montana and the Valais

Crans-Montana lies at about 1,500 m on a wide, sunny plateau above Sierre in the Swiss canton of Valais, facing a long line of 4,000 m peaks across the Rhône valley. Its ski area climbs to the Plaine Morte glacier at about 3,000 m, the Mont Lachaux slopes host women’s speed races of the Ski World Cup, and in summer the Crans-sur-Sierre golf course hosts the European Masters. The resort is known for its hotels, shops and lakes in the middle of the village.

Practical Tips: the Simplon, the Border and the Drive Back

The Simplon Pass is kept open all year and is the usual winter route from Milan to the Valais; after heavy snowfall chains can be required for a few hours. Switzerland is in the Schengen area but not in the EU, so customs checks can happen at Gondo and every passenger needs a valid passport or national ID card. For an afternoon flight from Malpensa, we usually suggest leaving Crans-Montana about five and a half hours before take-off.
