Which Airport for Livigno: Bergamo, Linate or Malpensa?

Bergamo is the closest Milan airport to Livigno, about 3 h 20 by car, and it is also the cheapest transfer, from €600. Linate is about 3 h 35 and Malpensa about 3 h 45. Malpensa has the most long-haul and international flights, so many of our guests land there and drive via Como and Lecco to the Valtellina. Whichever airport you fly into, we meet you inside arrivals and drive you to the door of your hotel.

Livigno, the Duty-Free Valley

Livigno lies at 1,816 m in a long, high valley of Lombardy close to the Swiss border. Its two ski areas, Mottolino and Carosello 3000, face each other across the valley, and its snow parks hosted snowboard and freestyle events of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics. Livigno is a duty-free zone with its own customs rules, so shopping and fuel cost less than in the rest of Italy.

Practical Tips: Customs, the Foscagno Pass and the Drive Back

Because Livigno is duty-free, customs checks can happen when you leave the valley, and goods above the allowances must be declared. The Foscagno Pass is kept open all winter; after heavy snowfall chains can be required for a few hours, and our cars are equipped for winter. For an afternoon flight from Malpensa, we usually suggest leaving Livigno about six and a half hours before take-off, and about six hours for Bergamo or Linate.
