Milan to Venice by Private Car: About 3 Hours, Door to Piazzale Roma

A private car service from Milan to Venice covers about 270 km on the A4 motorway and takes around 3 hours from central Milan to Piazzale Roma, the last point in Venice that cars can reach. Your driver collects you at your hotel, home or office, or inside arrivals at Malpensa, Linate or Bergamo, loads every suitcase and drives you straight to the edge of the lagoon. The price is for the whole car, not per person, and includes fuel, motorway tolls and parking.

The train is quicker if you travel light and your hotel is next to Santa Lucia station. The car makes the difference when you have luggage, children or a flight to catch, or when you want to see something on the way. Verona, Sirmione on Lake Garda, Bergamo Alta and Padua are all directly on the route: your driver parks and waits while you have lunch or walk around, and you reach Venice in the afternoon without changing trains with your bags.

In Venice we drop you at Piazzale Roma or the Tronchetto car park, help with the luggage and, if you wish, hand you over to a water taxi that takes you to the door of your hotel. On the way back we meet you at Piazzale Roma and drive you to any Milan address or airport. Check your price and book online →

Why book with a local company? Global booking platforms pass your trip to whichever operator is free, so you rarely know who is coming. With MilanobyCar you deal with the same small Milan team from the first email to the moment you arrive. When we work with trusted local partner chauffeurs, MilanobyCar remains responsible for your booking, the car and the price.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions — Milan to Venice

How much does a private car from Milan to Venice cost?

A private transfer from Milan city to Venice (Piazzale Roma) starts from €800 per car for a Mercedes E-Class with up to 2 passengers, and from €870 for a Mercedes V-Class with up to 6 passengers, on a weekday daytime transfer. From Linate it starts from €790, from Malpensa from €900 and from Bergamo from €695. Night-time, high-season weekends and public holidays are priced differently. The price is per car, not per person, and includes fuel, motorway tolls and parking. Enter your trip in the booking form to see the exact price for your date.

How long is the drive from Milan to Venice?

About 3 hours for the 270 km from central Milan to Piazzale Roma on the A4 motorway, 2 h 45 to 3 hours from Linate and about 3 h 15 from Malpensa. Leaving Milan at rush hour can add 30 to 45 minutes. With a sightseeing stop in Verona, plan 5 to 6 hours in total.

Where does the car drop us off in Venice?

Cars can only reach Piazzale Roma or the Tronchetto car park at the end of the lagoon bridge. The driver drops you there and helps with the luggage. From Piazzale Roma you continue on foot, by vaporetto or by water taxi to your hotel. We can also drive you to Venice Marco Polo Airport.

Is the water taxi to our hotel included?

No. The Venice water taxi is run by independent licensed boat operators and is paid separately. We can arrange one to be waiting at Piazzale Roma when you arrive, which is the easiest way to reach a canal-side hotel with luggage.

Can we stop in Verona or on Lake Garda on the way?

Yes. Verona, Sirmione on Lake Garda, Bergamo Alta and Padua are all on or near the route. Tell us which stop you would like when you book: the driver parks and waits while you visit, and the extra time is included in the quote you confirm before paying.

Is the train faster than a car from Milan to Venice?

For the journey itself, yes: the high-speed train from Milano Centrale to Venezia Santa Lucia takes about 2 h 25. The car is the better choice with several suitcases or children, from Malpensa or a hotel far from Centrale, for very early or late journeys, or when you want to stop in Verona or on Lake Garda.

Can you pick us up at Malpensa and drive straight to Venice?

Yes. The driver waits inside arrivals at Malpensa Terminal 1 or 2, Linate or Bergamo with a name board, follows your flight in real time and includes 60 minutes of free waiting after landing. You go straight to Venice without stopping in Milan.

Do you provide child seats?

Yes. Baby seats, child seats and boosters are free of charge on long journeys such as Milan to Venice. Tell us the age of each child when you book so we can prepare the right seats.

How many passengers and suitcases fit in the car?

The Mercedes E-Class takes up to 2 passengers with 2 large suitcases and cabin bags. The Mercedes V-Class takes up to 6 passengers with their luggage, at the same price for 1 to 6 people. With several large suitcases we recommend the V-Class rather than the S-Class, whose boot is smaller.

Do you also drive from Venice back to Milan?

Yes. We collect you at Piazzale Roma, Tronchetto or Venice Marco Polo Airport and drive you to any Milan address or to Malpensa, Linate or Bergamo airport. For an international flight from Malpensa, leave Venice at least 5 hours before departure.

Is MilanobyCar a local company?

Yes. MilanobyCar is a licensed NCC private hire company based in Milan since 1993, run by Adrian and a small team. We are not a global platform or a booking app: you deal with the same people from the first email to the end of your trip. When we work with trusted local partner chauffeurs, MilanobyCar remains responsible for your booking.

Private Car or High-Speed Train from Milan to Venice?

Frecciarossa and Italo trains run from Milano Centrale to Venezia Santa Lucia in about 2 h 25, so for one or two people travelling light, with hotels close to both stations, the train is quicker and cheaper. The private car wins in other cases: with several suitcases or children, when you start from Malpensa or from a hotel far from Centrale, when you want to stop in Verona or on Lake Garda, or for very early and very late journeys. The car takes about 3 hours door to Piazzale Roma, and the price is shared across the whole group.

Arriving in Venice by Car: Piazzale Roma, Tronchetto and Water Taxis

Cars can enter Venice only as far as Piazzale Roma or the Tronchetto car park island, both at the end of the bridge across the lagoon. From there the city is reached on foot, by vaporetto or by water taxi. The vaporetto line 1 runs along the Grand Canal to San Marco in about 45 minutes; line 2 is faster. A private water taxi goes straight to the canal entrance of your hotel and is the easiest option with luggage; it is paid separately to the boat operator, and we can arrange one to be waiting when you arrive.

Practical Tips for the Drive and the Return

The A4 is busy around Milan at rush hour and on Friday afternoons in summer, so a mid-morning departure is usually the smoothest. In Verona the driver drops you near the Arena and waits outside the restricted traffic zone; for Padua, book the Scrovegni Chapel before you travel. For the return to Malpensa, count about 3 h 15 from Piazzale Roma plus the time your water taxi needs to get there, and leave at least 5 hours before an international flight.
