Train or Private Car from Bellagio to Venice?
Bellagio has no railway station. By public transport you first take a ferry to Varenna or a bus or boat to Como, then a regional train to Milan and a Frecciarossa or Italo train to Venezia Santa Lucia. With waiting times, two or three changes and luggage, the journey usually takes five to six hours. A private car takes about four hours from your hotel to Piazzale Roma with no changes, and the price is shared across the whole group, which with three or more people often brings it close to the cost of first-class train tickets plus transfers at both ends.
Leaving Bellagio: Hotel Pick-Up and the Lake Road
Most hotels in Bellagio are on the lakefront or on the road above the village, and the car can reach their entrance. In the pedestrian lanes of the old centre the driver meets you at the nearest point the car can reach and carries the luggage. The road south to Lecco follows the eastern side of the promontory and is narrow in places, so a mid-morning departure, after the commuter traffic and before the summer crowds, is usually the smoothest.
Arriving in Venice: Piazzale Roma, Tronchetto and Water Taxis
Cars can enter Venice only as far as Piazzale Roma or the Tronchetto car park island at the end of the lagoon bridge. From there you continue on foot, by vaporetto or by water taxi. A private water taxi goes straight to the canal entrance of your hotel and is the easiest option with luggage; it is paid separately to the boat operator, and we can arrange one to be waiting when you arrive. If you fly out the same day, we drive you to Venice Marco Polo Airport instead.
