Malpensa or Milan to Courchevel by Private Car: About 4¼ Hours

A private transfer from Malpensa to Courchevel covers about 370 km and takes around 4 h 15: motorway to Turin and up the Susa valley, the Fréjus tunnel into France, then the Maurienne valley to Albertville, Moûtiers and the mountain road up to Courchevel 1850. From central Milan the time is about the same, from Linate about 4 h 30 and from Bergamo about 4 h 45. The price is for the whole car, not per person, and includes fuel, motorway tolls and parking.

It is motorway almost all the way and the fastest route in every season, so we use it all year; the Little St Bernard Pass is closed from autumn to late spring, and the Mont Blanc tunnel via Chamonix is our alternative if the Fréjus is closed. Geneva and Chambéry are closer to Courchevel, but if your flight lands in Milan, or you are combining the Alps with Milan or Lake Como, a private car from Malpensa saves you a second flight and a train-and-bus connection through Moûtiers.

We drive to every level of Courchevel: 1850, 1650 Moriond, 1550 Village, Le Praz and La Tania, and to Méribel and Val Thorens in the same 3 Vallées ski area. Most hotels in 1850 have a drive-up entrance, so we drop you at the door. Check your price and book online →

From Milan city it starts from €1,145, from Linate from €1,185 and from Bergamo Airport from €1,365. Night-time transfers, Christmas, New Year, February weekends and public holidays are priced differently. The price is per car, not per person, and includes fuel, motorway tolls and parking; the Fréjus tunnel toll is not included. Enter your trip in the booking form to see the exact price for your date.

How long does it take from Malpensa to Courchevel?

About 4 h 15 for the 370 km from Malpensa to Courchevel 1850, via Turin, the Fréjus tunnel, the Maurienne valley, Albertville and Moûtiers. From Milan city it takes about the same, from Linate about 4 h 30 and from Bergamo about 4 h 45. Saturday traffic in the Tarentaise valley can add 30 to 60 minutes.

Which route do you take from Milan to Courchevel?

All year round we take the fastest route: the motorway to Turin, the Fréjus tunnel into France and the A43 down the Maurienne valley to Albertville and Moûtiers, almost all motorway with no mountain pass. If the Fréjus is closed for maintenance we use the Mont Blanc tunnel via Chamonix. The Little St Bernard Pass is closed from autumn to late spring.

Which airport is closest to Courchevel?

Chambéry is the closest, about 1 h 30 by car, but has mostly seasonal weekend flights. Geneva and Lyon are about 2 h 30. Milan Malpensa is about 4 h 15 and is the right choice when your flight lands in Milan or you combine the Alps with Milan or Lake Como. Transfers from Geneva, Chambéry and Lyon are on request.

Can you pick us up at Malpensa and drive straight to Courchevel?

Yes. The driver follows your flight in real time, waits inside arrivals at Terminal 1 or 2 with a name board, includes 60 minutes of free waiting after landing and drives straight to Courchevel without stopping in Milan, with a coffee stop on the way if you like.

Do we need a passport to go from Milan to Courchevel?

Italy and France are both in the Schengen area, so there is normally no border control, but checks can happen at the Fréjus tunnel. Every passenger should carry a valid passport or national ID card.

Is there a train from Milan to Courchevel?

There is no direct train. From Milan you need trains via Turin and Chambéry to Moûtiers and then a bus or taxi up to Courchevel, usually six hours or more with several changes. A private car takes about 4 h 15 to your hotel door with no changes.

Do you drive to every level of Courchevel?

Yes. We drive to Courchevel 1850, 1650 Moriond, 1550 Village, Le Praz and La Tania. Malpensa to Courchevel 1650 Moriond starts from €1,110. For chalets on private roads, send us the address and we plan the drop-off.

Do you also drive to Méribel and Val Thorens?

Yes. Malpensa to Méribel starts from €1,100 and Milan city to Méribel from €1,120. Malpensa to Val Thorens starts from €1,165 and Milan city to Val Thorens from €1,185 per car.

Can you take our skis?

Yes. Ski and snowboard bags fit in the Mercedes V-Class together with the luggage of up to 6 passengers. Tell us how many ski bags you have when you book so we send the right car.

Do you also drive from Courchevel back to Malpensa?

Yes. Courchevel to Malpensa starts from €1,160, to Milan city from €1,175, to Linate from €1,225 and to Bergamo from €1,330 per car. For an afternoon flight from Malpensa, leave Courchevel about seven hours before take-off.

Do you drive from Lake Como to Courchevel?

Yes. Como to Courchevel starts from €1,015, Tremezzo from €1,095 and Bellagio from €1,115 per car, about 4 h 45 to 5 hours.

Do you provide child seats?

Yes. Baby seats, child seats and boosters are free of charge on long journeys such as Malpensa to Courchevel. Tell us the age of each child when you book so we can prepare the right seats.

Which Airport for Courchevel: Malpensa, Geneva or Chambéry?

Chambéry is the closest airport to Courchevel, about 1 h 30 by car, but has mostly seasonal weekend flights. Geneva is about 2 h 30 and Lyon about the same. Milan Malpensa is about 4 h 15. Malpensa makes sense when your long-haul flight lands in Milan, when you combine the Alps with Milan or Lake Como, or when there is no convenient connection to Geneva: a private car door to door avoids a second flight or a train and bus through Moûtiers. Courchevel also has its own altiport for private aircraft.

Why We Drive via the Fréjus Tunnel

From Milan there are three roads into the Tarentaise valley. The fastest, all year round, is the motorway to Turin, the Fréjus tunnel and the A43 down the Maurienne valley to Albertville: almost all motorway, with no mountain pass. The Mont Blanc tunnel via Chamonix is our alternative when the Fréjus is closed for maintenance, and the Little St Bernard Pass from La Thuile is closed from autumn to late spring. The Italy–France border is inside the tunnel; both countries are in the Schengen area, but every passenger needs a valid passport or national ID card.

Practical Tips: Saturdays, Ski Bags and the Drive Back

Saturday is change-over day in the 3 Vallées, and the road between Albertville and Moûtiers can be slow in both directions, so we plan extra time. Tell us how many ski bags you travel with so we send the V-Class if needed. For an afternoon flight from Malpensa, we usually suggest leaving Courchevel about seven hours before take-off.
