Milan or Malpensa to Alta Badia by Private Car

A private transfer from Milan to Alta Badia covers about 375 km to La Villa and takes around 4 h 30: the A4 motorway past Bergamo and Brescia to Verona, the A22 Brenner motorway north past Trento and Bolzano to Bressanone, then east along the Val Pusteria to San Lorenzo and south up the Val Badia through Pedraces to La Villa, San Cassiano and Corvara. From Malpensa it takes about 4 h 45, from Linate about 4 h 20 and from Bergamo about 3 h 50. The price is for the whole car, not per person, and includes fuel, motorway tolls and parking.

The whole route is in Italy, with no border, no tunnel toll and no vignette, and it crosses no mountain pass: the Val Badia road from the Val Pusteria is a valley road, open all winter. The shorter roads over the Passo Gardena from Val Gardena or the Passo Campolongo from Arabba are high Dolomite passes that can close or need chains after snowfall, so in winter we do not rely on them. By public transport the trip means trains to Brunico or Bressanone and a bus up the valley: five hours or more with changes and your ski bags on every step.

We drive to every hotel and chalet in Corvara, Colfosco, La Villa, San Cassiano, Pedraces and Badia, all on the Sella Ronda and the Dolomiti Superski area. Check your price and book online →

The shorter roads over the Passo Gardena from Val Gardena and the Passo Campolongo from Arabba are high Dolomite passes that can close or need chains after snowfall, so in winter we do not rely on them.

There is no train into the Val Badia. You need trains from Milan via Verona to Bressanone or Brunico and then a bus up the valley: five hours or more with changes. A private car takes about 4 h 30 from Milan to your door.

Yes. Milan to Corvara and Milan to San Cassiano start from €1,140, Malpensa to Corvara from €1,240 and Milan to Pedraces from €1,115 per car. Colfosco is on request. We drive to the door of every hotel and chalet in the valley.

Which Airport for Alta Badia: Verona, Bergamo, Linate or Malpensa?

Verona is the closest airport to Alta Badia, about 3 hours by car, and transfers from there are on request. Of the Milan airports, Bergamo is the closest at about 3 h 50, then Linate at about 4 h 20 and Malpensa at about 4 h 45. Malpensa has the most long-haul and international flights, so many of our guests land there and drive straight to the Dolomites without going into Milan. Whichever airport you fly into, we meet you inside arrivals and drive you to the door of your hotel.

Alta Badia, the Sella Ronda and the Dolomites

Alta Badia is the upper Val Badia, a Ladin-speaking valley in South Tyrol below the Sella group and the Sassongher, in the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites. Its villages, Corvara, Colfosco, La Villa, San Cassiano, Pedraces and Badia, sit on the Sella Ronda ski circuit and the Dolomiti Superski area, and every December the Gran Risa slope in La Villa hosts a men’s giant slalom of the Ski World Cup. The valley is also known for its mountain huts and its Michelin-starred restaurants.

Practical Tips: Saturdays, Ski Bags and the Drive Back

Saturday is change-over day in the Dolomites and the A22 Brenner motorway can be slow between Bressanone and Verona, so we plan extra time. In winter we always take the Val Pusteria road, not the Passo Gardena or the Passo Campolongo, so snow on the passes does not affect your transfer. Tell us how many ski bags you travel with so we send the V-Class if needed. For an afternoon flight from Malpensa, we usually suggest leaving Alta Badia about seven and a half hours before take-off.
