Bellagio sits on the tip of the peninsula where the lake splits into its two branches, so the last part of the journey is always on a lakeside road. The quickest way from Milan is usually through Lecco and up the eastern branch; from Como the road runs along the western branch through Torno, Nesso and Lezzeno. Both are beautiful and both are narrow, with about half an hour of bends at the end. Bellagio sits at the tip between the two branches of Lake Como. You arrive either along the Como branch or along the Lecco branch, or across the lake by car ferry.

Train, Ferry or Private Car from Milan to Bellagio?
There is no train station in Bellagio. The usual public route is a Trenord train from Milano Centrale to Varenna-Esino, about an hour, then the ferry across to Bellagio, or a train to Como followed by a slow boat or bus along the lake. With connections and luggage it easily takes two and a half to three hours. A private car takes about 1 h 40 from Milan or Linate to the door of your hotel, with no changes, which matters with suitcases, children or a late arrival.
Arriving in Bellagio: Lakefront, Lanes and Hotel Entrances
Bellagio is built on a steep promontory. The lakefront, with Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni and the ferry landing, can be reached by car; most of the old town above is a network of stepped, pedestrian lanes. We drop you at the door wherever the road allows, and as close as possible to hotels and apartments on the hill, and carry the luggage with you. Parking in the village is very limited, especially in summer, which is one more reason to arrive with a driver.
Practical Tips: Bends, Summer Traffic and the Drive Back
The last half hour to Bellagio follows the lake on a narrow, winding road, beautiful but slow when a bus comes the other way. If anyone gets carsick, give them the front seat. From April to October the lake roads are busy at weekends, so allow a little extra time. For an afternoon flight from Linate or Malpensa we usually suggest leaving Bellagio about four hours before take-off.
