The roads down to them are narrow and winding, parking is scarce and the old centres are essentially pedestrian, so we do what people who live here do. April to June and September to October: the sea is calm enough for the boats, which run roughly from spring to early November, and the trains are less crowded than in July and August. Boats are cancelled in rough weather; the trains run all year. ### The Cinque Terre by private car or by train? Trains from Milan to La Spezia take roughly three hours, and the first one that gets you there for a full day leaves early from Milan Centrale.
