How to get to Venice from Milan Malpensa airport

There are 6 ways to get from Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) to Venice by plane (less convenient because not direct flight from Malpensa airport to Venice airport), train, bus, car or shuttle

There are two main ways to get from Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) to Venice. The first and cheapest option is by bus which costs €17 - €27 and takes more than 4 hours. The second and more convenient way is by train which costs €16 - €21 and takes around 1 hour 30 minutes.

The buses leave from outside Terminal 1 on a regular basis and there are several companies offering the same service: Navigare, Autostradale, Terravision and SADEM. There are also direct buses from Malpensa airport to other Italian cities such as Florence, Pisa or Rome. Some of these services require passengers to have booked their tickets in advance, so keep an eye out for this when booking your flight tickets!

Depending on your budget, the easiest way is to take a chauffeur service direct from Malpensa airport to Venice, pick-up you from the arrivals gate and drop you off to Venice Piazzale Roma square to take the water taxi or water bus to your final destination in Venice

There is no direct train from Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) to Venice. However, there are services departing from Malpensa Aeroporto T.1 and arriving at Venezia S. Lucia via Milano Centrale and Venezia Mestre. The journey, including transfers, takes approximately 4h.

The trains are operated by Trenitalia and their website is an excellent resource for planning your journey in advance. You can book tickets online, but they must be collected before boarding the train in person at a ticket office or vending machine. To make things easier, you can also buy your ticket on board the train once it arrives at Milan Centrale or Venezia Mestre stations: just look for the yellow machines located at platforms 1-3 of each station (see photo below).

Ticket prices vary depending on whether you choose an economy, super economy or standard class seat and how far in advance you purchase your ticket (the earlier you book, the cheaper it will be). Super economy fares are only available if purchased at least 2 days in advance; however standard and economy fares can be bought up to 3 hours before departure time with no restrictions

The airport at Venice is called Marco Polo. It is located on the mainland, about 12km from Venice itself.

There are two ways to get from the airport to Venice:

By taxi: The journey takes around 30-40 minutes and will cost €90-100 one way for a taxi with luggage.

By bus: Buses run from Marco Polo airport directly to Venice. There are several companies offering this service (see below for details), and the cost varies depending on your destination in Venice.

If you prefer not to go by taxi or bus, there are options of getting from Malpensa Airport to Venice by train; however, these take longer than other modes of transport and can be less convenient if you have many bags or suitcases with you. For example, while there are direct trains from Malpensa Aeroporto T.1 to Milano Centrale station (which is near Venezia S. Lucia station), these services only operate every hour or so during the day and do not go all the way through to Venezia Mestre station (where there are connecting trains

There are no direct flights from Milan Malpensa Airport to Venice Airport. The quickest flight takes 3h 25m, but it has one stopover.

To fly directly from Milan to Venice, you have to take a connecting flight from Milan Malpensa Airport to Milan Linate Airport, then another connecting flight from there to Venice Marco Polo Airport.

Flights between these two airports are operated by Alitalia and EasyJet. The average cost of a ticket on Alitalia is €166 (about US$184), but it can be as low as €159 for early bookers. On EasyJet, the lowest price is US$178.
